WMG / The Abominable Dr. Phibes

Go To

  • Vulnania is a homunculus.
  • Doctor Phibes has his doctorate in theology. Vulnavia may be some sort of angel or demon. The second movie seems to confirm this, as Phibes summons a "replacement" Vulnavia and dismisses her via a tunnel of mirrors.
    • If so, she has a human body. Trout and other act like they're not seeing anything non-human when they see Vulnavia's acid-burned corpse at the end. Which also excludes the possibility that she's a clockwork: they don't stare at her body in astonishment and say the equivalent of, "Oh my God, she's a robot!"
  • Vulnavia was Victoria's sister. She's a beautiful brunette, fiercely loyal to Phibes and willing to join him in seeking revenge, has a name beginning with "V" and her relationship with Phibes appears to be strictly platonic, despite some occasional flirty moments. Like Phibes, she's also quite mad. However, the second movie seems to put paid to this theory, since Vulnavia is sent away which seems unlikely both because a) Phibes is no longer avenging Victoria, and b) why would Vulnavia just... leave?
  • Vulnavia is a robot. She rarely speaks, has no detectable moral compass, and survived being doused with acid, albiet with a new face. Phibes proved that he is a brilliant engineer and has multiple clockwork musicians in his lair that looks very lifelike, despite a limited range of movement. It seems like the musicians are prototypes of the technology that went into making Vulnavia.
    • Vulnavia is a cyborg. She may be little more than a comely, fully-mobile Brain in a Jar. Her human components surprised and disgusted all who saw them revealed by the acid.
  • The missing chauffeur was also a clockwork robot, hence no was body found in the car.
