WMG / Ted Lasso

Go To

Ted will return to Kansas at the end of the series — but Beard will stay behind.
Ted has been showing more and more signs of homesickness in season 3, and especially misses his son. He also seems to be moving towards considering his work for Richmond to be complete. Beard, however, seems to be thriving in the UK.

  • Confirmed

Nora is going to be caught using Bantr.
Seeing that Bantr is all words and no pictures, no one will be able to suspect her using a fake profile trying to (most likely) go after Sam through the app. This in turn will lead to Keeley and AFC Richmond landing in hot water for having an app that can be used by minors and will be a major plot point either late in season 2 or the start of season 3.
  • Semi-jossed - Sam ends up paired with Rebecca as of the end of Season 2. When Rebecca tells Nora she's with Sam, Nora is supportive.

Ted and Rebecca are unknowingly flirting with each other on Bantr.
We’ve seen Ted putting his phone away, with a smile, before a match. Shortly after Rebecca was sending a Bantr message…
  • Jossed. Rebecca's mystery man is Sam.

Roy will propose to Keeley
Roy is definitely a family-oriented person, and he clearly adores Keeley, a feeling which is definitely mutual. One could go so far as guessing that was what he was going to do in Spain, which makes it all the more heartbreaking that Keeley didn't come.

  • Jossed.

Coach Beard grew up with an abusive parent
He's notably the only person in the locker room who isn't frozen in shock/horror when Jamie's dad goes on his tirade, and immediately gets in between them before he can retaliate after Jamie punches him. While dragging Jamie's dad from the room, Beard not only purposefully knocks him into the door, but follows him out, probably to make sure he actually left. When he catches up with Ted later, he's clearly shaken up and wants to avoid the others, as if wanting to get as much distance from what happened as possible. He's also rather distant with Ted, giving noncommittal responses to his reminders about the next day's plans, and flipping him off at his "bird for bird" comment. It's possible that the locker room confrontation set something off in him, which would make sense if he had a history of dealing with that sort of violence.

Ms. Bowen is secretly attracted to Roy
In "Midnight Train to Royston", Roy stops by Phoebe's school, apparently not knowing that it was a school half-day and his sister picked Phoebe up earlier. Roy sticks around for a while helping Ms. Bowen out with the preparations for the art fundraiser before heading to his photo shoot with Keeley, and says no when Ms. Bowen asks him if he is married. With Roy and Keeley's relationship seemingly headed into rocky territory after Keeley revealed to Roy that Nate kissed her and Jamie still has feelings for her, Ms. Bowen might shoot her shot soon...

  • Mostly confirmed in the third season. She was flirting with him, but never took her shot.

Nate is secretly working for Rupert
Their plan is for Nate to undermine and discredit the infrastructure of the club from within, to the point where Rebecca is forced out, thus creating an opportunity for Rupert to buy it back. Nate's reward will be the manager's job and the recognition that comes with it, both of which he desperately craves.
  • Seriously, did anyone buy Rupert's claim, made at Rebecca's father's funeral, to not be interested in football any more? There must be something going on between him and Nate as the two were seen speaking at the funeral, even though it is unlikely that they would have interacted much (if at all) when Rupert was running the club.
  • Nate telling Trent Crimm about Ted's panic attack is just the start. His advance on Keeley could undermine her relationship with Roy, thus destabilising the lives of two of the club's key non-playing staff. He also has dirt on Higgins, who admitted to Ted, Beard, Roy and Nate that his misunderstanding of time zones cost Richmond the chance of signing a new player. Furthermore, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for Nate to somehow find out about Rebecca's relationship with Sam and leak that to the press as well; news of the club's owner having a sexual relationship with one of the players would seriously affect the credibility of the former.
  • If that was ever the plan, it seems to have been changed. At the end of season 2, Rupert buys West Ham United and hires Nate as coach.
    • It still begs the question: What did Rupert whisper to Nate at the funeral? Was that the first they had communicated, or was there a plan in place before that for Nate to turn?

Trent Crimm will take over as head of public relations at AFC
Pretty simple — with Keely leaving the post to start her own PR firm, there is a vacant position at the club which requires a media-savvy person who respects Ted and the team. As a former sports journalist with a memorable catch phase (which shows a knack for self promotion) who has written positively about Ted and respects the guy enough to have committed a sackable offence (outing Nate as his anonymous source), Trent's the ideal candidate.

  • Jossed, instead he gets onto the team to write a book and once done, leaves. Keeley ultimately returns to being the head of Public Relations while still having her firm.

Rupert is related to Will's Dad from The Inbetweeners
Both are superficially charming but actually fairly unpleasant well-off men who've dumped their wives for younger women. There's also a strong family resemblance.

This is not the last we've seen of Edwin Akufo
This is a man who has the money and power to buy a museum and then fill it with hired actors and enough charisma to almost make it seem charming. He's not going to let Sam's rejection go and may be a continued obstacle in season 3.
  • Confirmed! He returns in Episode 10 of the third season, and makes good on his petty vendetta by not only blocking Sam from playing for Nigeria's national team, but also bullying him at his restaurant. On top of that, he tries to propose an equivalent of the European Super League, and throws one of his signature tantrums when it doesn't pan out.

In "No Weddings and a Funeral" Dani Rojas was wearing the wrong shoe size.
In the episode "No Weddings and a Funeral", there is a running gag about how much the football players hate wearing dress shoes. However, while many make disparaging statements about discomfort, Dani seems to be in outright pain. It is clear he had never worn these kinds of shoes before and strong hints show he likely never will again. This means the shoes were likely to be brand new or borrowed. While new, unbroken dress shoes can be uncomfortable, they should not cause pain. Dani is limping his way around and needs help walking. One way they might be this bad is if the sizing is wrong.

Dani is from Mexico where shoe sizes are different from the UK. If he wears a size 10 at home, he should wear a UK size 11 men's. This might be compounded if Dani grew up not wearing shoes often. Walking barefoot in childhood tends to cause a widening of the feet and splaying of the toes leading to needing a wide or even extra wide shoe.

Now picture this. Dani is taken to get if first set of dress shoes with his teammates. They ask him his shoe size and he says "I'm a 10" but he's talking about a MEXICAN size ten. Also, he, growing up playing football barefoot, haswide feet but no one thought to ask or measure him. Instead, they throw a pair of 10 UK at him. Now he is clomping around in brand new size 10 Normal width UK dress shoes when he should be wearing 11 extra wide. No wonder he is hurting. And what's worse, because everyone else is complaining, he thinks this is just how they are.

Ted named his son after the dog he took care of.
Ted's son is named Henry. In the Season 2 premiere, Ted relates the story of how he came to care for and love the dog that bit him as a child, whose name was Hank (a nickname for Henry).

Bex is playing Rupert.
His history of cheating on his spouse is well known, even Rebecca was his mistress at one time, Bex is planning on divorcing Rupert and ruining him through child support.

  • Jossed, at least the part of her playing Rupert. The Divorce and helping out his infidelities though does go through.

Rebecca will become a stepmom or adopt
The visions the psychic had seem to be coming true, though in unexpected ways. Rebecca can't have biogical children, but she can still adopt or become a stepmom. Maybe she will marry the guy from Amsterdam and become a stepmother to his daughter.

Kinda confirmed. She is seen in the ending to have reconnected with her mystery man, and is introduced to his daughter with the implication that she will become a stepmom. They haven't married though.

Zava will be back.
A character like Zava couldn't just disappear and never come back. He'll reappear at some stage and make his presence known once again.

  • Semi-Confirmed. He doesn't show up on screen again, but he does send a care package to the team and is shown to be joining Los Angeles FC (a referential in-joke to Zlatan Ibrahimovic having played for LA Galaxy).

Ted's "truth bomb" is...
He's leaving Richmond at the end of the season to go back to Kansas and be with his son. The team will be left in the hands of Beard, Roy and Nate.

  • Confirmed, the episode makes no real attempt at hiding it.

Ted will return to America but not to American football
Instead he'll become the coach of an American soccer team.

  • Technically confirmed. He is the coach of an American Soccer Team...his son's Youth Soccer Team.

Beard's birth name isn't Beard.
Either Beard is a nickname he got after growing his trademark facial hair (as detailed in "The Strings That Bind Us") and not his legal name, or Beard changed his legal name after he got out of prison so people couldn't look up his past and use it to hurt Ted's career. In fact, Beard being in prison explains a lot of why he's so private about his background overall.
  • We never find out if he changed his name, although he does confirm to Nate that he did time in prison.
