Speculation on the Identity of the Drowned Girl.
The Drowned Girl was left intentionally mysterious and unidentified, leading to many speculations among the fanbase.

     The Drowned Girl is Cassidy.
Many speculate that the Drowned Girl is Cassidy, who is often speculated to be the host of Golden Freddy and the Vengeful Spirit from Ultimate Custom Night. With the Princess in Princess Quest being originally named "Cassidy" in the files, it's speculated that Cassidy followed either Afton or the Mimic01 program into the Pizzaplex and has been fighting as the lost Princess the whole time. This story would have her as the Drowned Girl to represent her new isolation and helplessness, in contrast to the power that UCN gave her.

-

Please note for the below section that her place as Golden Freddy's possessor, the Vengeful Spirit, and even her pronouns remain unconfirmed by canon.

-

Evidence For:

  • The girl is described with "long black hair", which is the only physical descriptor of Cassidy that we are given when she appears as the Bonnie-possessor in Five Nights at Freddy's: The Fourth Closet.
    • In her comparisons to Peggy, Peggy is depicted as a child with pigtails, which many fans draw Cassidy with, basing her on an illustration of the Puppet giving a black-pigtailed girl a cake in the Security Logbook.
  • The Princess was originally labelled as "Cassidy," implying that her story may mirror the mysterious character of Cassidy.
  • Her attempts to drag Kara in would parallel her dragging Afton to hell with her in UCN, refusing to let either of their souls move on even if it leaves her in a horrible place.
  • Her fear of being alone could be after being alone inside of Golden Freddy (assuming the Two-Spirits theory isn't canon), and then alone in hell with Afton.
  • The Drowned Girl's family are described as looking like they were from another time period. Which time period is not specified; it could very well be the 1980s, as the Pizzaplex would be open in the 2020s-2030s range, which would make the 80s an "older time period." As Cassidy would have died in the mid-80s, this would match her backstory.

-

Evidence Against:

  • The Drowned Girl doesn't seem to have any ties to Afton or his murders; the house appears to imply that she drowned in a bathtub, with the entire house being water-logged as the tub overflowed. There's no indication of murder or a connection to Fazbear's, aside from her being inside the VR simulation.
  • The Girl is associated with both water and the color green, something the Golden Freddy ghost is never associated with. Golden Freddy is, obviously, associated with the color yellow, and doesn't really have an elemental association.
  • The Princess's "Cassidy" name was deleted from the files after being discovered. With other mysterious file names remaining even after being located– for instance, "charliedoor"– and only this one being changed, it seems likely that her name wasn't supposed to be Cassidy, and the Princess is someone else entirely.
  • While mentioned above that her fearing loneliness could imply her past as a lonely ghost, if she is the Vengeful Spirit, Cassidy also chose specifically to be alone in UCN and appears to ignore Old Man Consequences's offers of help, meaning she may prefer solitude.
  • While mentioned above that the "different time period" of the girl's house could be the 1980s, the entire house is filled with candles rather than lights, which could imply a time period before electric lights became commonplace.

The Drowned Girl is Charlotte Emily.
Another speculation is that the Drowned Girl is Charlotte Emily, the soul inside of The Puppet and the daughter of Henry Emily, William Afton's co-owner of the Fazbear Franchise. Charlie has always been portrayed as a protector of the other souls in the Pizzaplex, being the one to "give life" to the other deceased kids. She is also shown as a major antagonist/foil to Afton, meaning she may be investigating the Glitchtrap virus in the Pizzaplex in an effort to stop his evil.

-

Evidence For:

  • The pixel art of Charlie in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator shows her with long black hair and dark eyes. Due to the limited color palette, she also has gray skin and clothes, perfectly matching the description of the Drowned Girl. She also has a bright green wristband, which the Puppet was supposed to use to track her, matching the mysterious green veins on the girl's skin.
  • The story could be implying that her "giving life" to the other ghost children wasn't an entirely altruistic move, and that it came from her ghost's fear of being left alone without them. That she was dragging the other kids into an existence of suffering simply to keep herself from suffering alone.
  • The Girl's connection to water could be referencing the heavy rain in Charlie's death scene in Pizzeria Simulator.
  • Lefty, the animatronic holding the Puppet (and therefore Charlie) was never shown burning in Pizzeria Simulator, leading some fans to believe that she may still be active and present, rather than having moved on. With "charliedoor" also being a file name for the mysterious sticky-note room in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, and Nightmarionne plushies found in strange areas of the Pizzaplex, it is very possible that Charlie is, indeed, in the system.
    • With Nightmarionne being represented, rather than the Puppet, it could imply Charlie's more dark approach or Agony reflection that leads her to drowning Kara; the Nightmarionne is the dark version of the Puppet, and thus we have a darker Charlie.
  • The Drowned Girl's bedroom very specifically shows a creepy music box that eerily repeats the same song. When it begins skipping and Kara closes the box, it opens back up and keeps playing. This could be a reference to the Puppet's music box in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, which needs to be wound up in order to prevent the Puppet from escaping its box and killing the Night Guard. The music box is very associated with the Puppet and Charlie as a result.
    • The music box also has a "carnival horse" as its spinner. In The Silver Eyes, Henry is implied to be interested in traveling circuses and carnivals, with Charlie finding books on the subject in his house. Help Wanted 2 also shows a lot of Fall Fest imagery along with a carousel minigame taking place at that location, implying the company has a history of carnival attractions.
    • While going up the stairs in a rush, Kara also breaks a bannister and almost falls from the stairwell into the water. There's a similar scene in The Twisted Ones, where John breaks through a stair and almost traps himself.
  • The Drowned Girl's family are described as looking like they were from another time period. Which time period is not specified; it could very well be the 1980s, as the Pizzaplex would be open in the 2020s-2030s range, which would make the 80s an "older time period." As Charlie would have died in the mid-80s, this would match her backstory.
  • In addition, the Drowned Girl's father is described as a brunette man, matching Henry Emily's depiction in the illustrations and graphic novels.

  • Charlie has always been seen as the protector of children, not one that would willingly hunt and kill one, especially with Kara desperately pleading to be let go.
  • The Drowned Girl's house doesn't match the description of the Emily house in The Silver Eyes, with the two bedrooms on the first floor rather than the second. Now, of course, that house was where Henry moved after Charlotte had already died, so this could represent the house from when the real Charlie was alive. There's also the fact that in the VR world, the house only holds a bathroom on the second floor, implying that its layout may not be accurate.
    • While mentioned above that the "different time period" of the girl's house could be the 1980s, the entire house is filled with candles rather than lights, which could imply a time period before electric lights became commonplace.

     The Drowned Girl is Peggy.
A very obvious reading would be that the Drowned Girl is Peggy; not the actual Peggy, who is alive but with significant brain damage, but instead a manifestation of Kara's guilt over not being able to help her cousin. She is heavily associated with Peggy in-text, to the point where Kara wonders if helping her would make up for not helping Peggy.

-

Evidence For:

  • Just like Peggy, the Drowned Girl has long black hair. In Kara's first nightmare, Peggy turns into the Drowned Girl, their faces flickering back and forth; in the house, Kara thinks that the girl may be her redemption for not saving Peggy; and at the end of the story, Kara directly thinks that the girl reminds her of her cousin.
  • Kara remembers Peggy reaching for her before she fell, and the Drowned Girl often holds out her hand for Kara to grab.
  • Kara appears to be the only one who is able to see the Drowned Girl, as she saw her first in a screen advertising the Water Park experience, while her friends missed it.
  • The Drowned Girl's attempt to drag Kara under would be a representation of how guilt can eat away at someone and "drown" them in their regrets. Kara thinks in the story about how she is trapped in the past, which could also be represented here.

-

Evidence Against:

  • Nothing about Peggy's accident involved water; she fell from a tree on a sunny day, and cracked her head on the sidewalk, giving herself a brain injury.
  • While Kara says that the girl reminds her of Peggy, she also associates them as different entities; in the first nightmare, their faces switch between each other, meaning they have different faces and appearances.
  • Kara sees what appears to be the Girl's house, which indicates 1) that she lived in a different time period, and 2) that Kara does not recognize the Girl's parents, despite knowing Peggy's well. The house definitely implies that the girl isn't Peggy.
  • The Girl using the phantom images of Kara's friends and family expressing disdain for her means that she can in fact mess with Kara's memories, or at the very least draw from her mind in order to make these illusions, meaning she could be invoking the image of Peggy intentionally to scare her farther, and thus isn't a manifestation in of herself.

     The Drowned Girl is Vanessa.
Another reading is that the Drowned Girl is the soul of Vanessa, who is currently trapped within the Pizzaplex system, tied to the Princess Quest 3 game as implied by the Good Vanny Ending of Security Breach.

-

Evidence For:

  • Assuming Vanessa's soul was indeed in Princess Quest 3 (which, to be fair, Help Wanted 2 sheds doubt on), it means that she is in the Pizzaplex system and could have ended up in the VR simulation.
  • The story could be a metaphor for how everyone Vanessa reaches out to during her possession ends up dead; her therapists are murdered by GGY, and Luis's fate is left unknown, though it's clear that something dangerous was happening at their company and he may not have survived it.

-

Evidence Against:

  • The girl's physical description is vastly different from Vanessa's; the Drowned Girl has black hair and dark eyes, while Vanessa has blonde hair and green eyes.
  • Kara sees what appears to be the Girl's house, which indicates that she lived in a different time period. Vanessa is in her 20s, meaning she's only about ten years older than Kara, and thus probably wouldn't qualify to be a "different time period," especially since the entire house is filled with candles rather than lights, which could imply a time period before electric lights became commonplace.
