• Ambiguous Situation: It was never explained what specific war was active between the Klingon-Empire and the United Federation of Planets at the time the T'Ong was sent on its sleeper mission. If it was the Klingon-Federation Cold War, it was established in Star Trek V that no Klingon ship was allowed to fire upon a Federation Starship without authorization from the Klingon government (which Captain K'Temoc claims he was given standing orders to fire on all Federation ships prior to being sent on his ship's mission). The only in universe explanation at that time was the Klingon-Federation War of 2267 which was quickly concluded after Kirk and Kor had the Treaty of Organia forced upon them.
