- Granted, we're told only a year passed in-universe between films, but the mayor Murphy saves in the original was named Gibson, not Kuzak as the mayor seen here. Maybe the original took place during an election year and Gibson lost (maybe in part due to the police strike) or maybe Gibson resigned after that crap with Miller taking him hostage.
