Nuclear war in The Before Times caused mutations that lead to the rise of the Silvers.
The mutations that cause silver blood and the development of superpowers could have been a side affect of exposure to nuclear radiation. The series takes place in a far-future version of the United States.
- There are plenty of examples of similar technology between the Earth of today and the world of the series (cameras, cars, planes, subways, etc.)
- The city of Naercy sounds a lot like it could be New York City - it's an island near a river that leads to the ocean, is a city of extremely tall buildings, and has an underground rail system.
- Nine-Five Field may be a reference to I-95. It's described as the ruins of a massive road and I-95 runs by New York City.
- Harbor Bay could be a future version of Boston. The regional accent is described as having "harsh vowels and missing r's," which sounds a lot like the Boston accent.
