Jimmy Shea is a mole
- As Serpico shows, New York had a pretty bad corruption problem in the 1960s and 1970s. Presumably Shea's father is, in the guise of nepotistic hiring, trying to get his son in a position where he can blow the whistle on at least one of the precincts in New York's police department.
- If he's a mole, he's doing a piss poor job of it. He immediately paws and gropes a prostitute in full view of Muldoon and then has sex with her. This is major dirt against a married man in that time period.
