WMG / Medieval Times Dinner And Tournament

Go To

Sovereign directly takes place after North.
For starters, the Black and White Knight, the Red Knight and the Blue Knight's designs are (mostly) remained the same. Same goes for the Chancellor and the Crown of Aragon.

Perhaps Sovereign takes place several years after the offscreen battle that followed North between the North Kingdom and Aragon. Don Carlos had been slain, and since he had no sons the teenage daughter of Catalina took the throne (and changed her name during the power transition to "Maria Isabella").

The knights are still the same knights throughout the eras, the king and princess just keep dying and cycling out.
Yeah, it's morbid. But the names of the knights never change.

Let's just say after Phillipe, Leonore, and Tristan died somehow, somehow the Green Knight (Temple) escaped death and was able to get away with treason under Don Carlos. Perhaps the executioner was merciful to him and/or it took a lot of bribing to get Don Carlos in on it.

Alternatively, Medieval Times tells the story of a succession crisis.
A number of plots (the 2006 era show and North) revolve around questions to the Crown of Aragon's power. The main focal point of Sovereign is the first ruling queen of Aragon following the king's (her father's) death. It's safe to assume in the 2000 show, Lord Marshall killed the Prince and stabbed the victor of the tournament as an attempt to gain more power.

Maybe this entire time, we've been following an epic centering around who really sits on the Aragonian throne... and the Royal Court and Knights still remain the same.

  • And as for the Green Knight being sent to the Dungeon at the end of the 2006 show but is still the cocky Don Temple in North: He was either bribed out (as described above) or coincidentally, his successor has the same name and personality as him.
    • But then again, Lord Chancellor never said his name in his introduction, maybe it's because it is another knight. That would make the Green Knight the only knight to be replaced (so far) throughout the crisis.

Don Carlos used to be a knight.
The king costume always consisted of the same elements as the knights' ("chain mail", tunic, shoulder plates and cape), however Carlos is notable for being the first king with the "Don" title. Maybe because the previous king had no surviving heirs to the throne, Don Carlos took the throne.
  • It might be the same case for Doña Maria Isabella, only that she was a lady-in-waiting.

Doña Maria Isabella lost all her family.
Her father did die recently. Her mother may have died when she was young, her husband was slain in battle, she had no children or other relatives... So she was the only one to take the throne.

In future shows, the role of the knights will no longer be excluded by gender.
The possibility of it was teased in a BuzzFeed advertisement. Currently, only male actors play the knights. A queen being the heroine in the 2018 show may set a precedent to open the knight role to more genders like how the role of falconer, master of horses, and executioner are. It may take some name-changing depending on the actor (not like it would impact the storyline) and waiting for society to become more open to the possibility.
