WMG / MCU:X-Men And Fantastic Four

Go To

FF and X-Men characters will be mentioned in Avengers 4
Now that 20th Century Fox will be bought by Disney, the movie rights to both the Fantastic Four and the X-Men (as well as all of the charters most commonly accosted with them like Doctor Doom and Deadpool) will return to Marvel Studios. As such it'll only be a matter of time until the legal rights allow those characters to appear in the MCU. Before then, it'll make sense for certain characters, like say Black Widow, to mention places like Latveria.
  • Jossed.

Certain characters who appeared in previous movies and TV series will be revealed as Mutants
The most obvious character-revealed-Mutant will be Chan Ho Yin, AKA Scorch, from Season One of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This is because one of the comic characters who used the Scorch codename was a Mutant.
  • Possibly confirmed, as it was recently teased that Ms.Marvel/Kamala Khan is a mutant.

The Mutants will be depicted as being the result of the Eternals actions on Earth
Maybe some Eternals "canoodling" with humans is what created the X-gene.

The Mutants will be depicted as having been living and interacting in secret
Think of this à la the Wizards in Harry Potter, or even just something similar to how Wakanda kept its true nature secret, but more unorthodox (i.e. Xavier's school being in a very secluded location in the mountains or woods, the Morlocks living even further down than the sewers, Genosha being a cloaked island untouched by non-Mutants, small villages or towns that exist just to be secret havens for Mutants...) All of their conflicts, prior to being exposed or revealing themselves, would have been conducted beneath the confines of the masquerade, if only for fears of what would happen if humans discovered them via a huge fight with lots of collateral damage. Xavier would be training the X-Men teams to be the ultimate ambassadors to the rest of the world, while the villains were preparing to conquer it when the time was right.

The Eternals movie will set up the F4
Reed Richards appears in the Gaiman series the movie is based on, but wasn't too drastic to the story; perhaps the movie will have him be friends with one of the Eternals, and we see that he's started preparing for the mission (which could easily be a privately-funded mission to space, in the same vein as Space-Xnote ), with the post-credits scene showing the mission launching, and mission control being told "Houston, We Have a Problem".
  • Jossed.

Storm will be prominently featured in the MCU when the X-Men get introduced.
She's one of the Marvel's most popular and recognizable characters, and since the FOX films didn't utilize her much, the MCU doesn't have anything to compete with. Plus with the success of Black Panther and the likely success of Captain Marvel, MCU recognizes the profit potential of diverse heroes.

The plot of the first MCU X-Men film.
The MCU will establish that mutants have existed all along, but in secret. The first X-Men MCU film will take place as the mutants are in hiding, with characters questioning how long they can hide, and whether it's even worth it. The main villain will be an organization that takes advantage of the mutant secrecy, it allows them to kidnap mutants for research and experiments. In the end, Professor X and the X-Men will decide that mutants should be known to the world now, and that they should announce it themselves in the hopes that it will give them some control over the narrative. (spoiler alert: they'll be feared and hated anyway)

The various X-Men characters will get limited series on Disney+
Like the others, it only makes sense to flesh out the X-Men side of the MCU with limited series on the X-Men characters. What candidates do you think there are, and what would they be about?
  • Kitty Pryde — Focuses on Kitty Pryde's adventures in various parts of the world, helping out others and stopping bad guys while setting a good example for other mutants.
  • Beast — We see Hank going about his career as a scientist, advocate, and crimefighter, hopefully with the charisma to back it up.
  • X-23 — Gives us light on Laura Kinney's youth as a birth-raised assassin, as runaway, and now a hero.
  • Longshot — Tells both Longshot's present as a ladykiller X-Man and his history as an entertainer/slave in the media-obsessed Mojoworld.
  • Storm — Sheds light on her history where she was thought as an African goddess, now a major force for the X-Men and mutant equality.
  • Gambit — The anti-heroic Cajun is better suited for a series than a solo movie, and this could show him going about his ways as a thief before becoming a better hero.
    • Considering his movie wound up getting shelved, this is more likely to happen now.
  • Academy X — This focuses on the students of the Academy training to be the next X-Men. These people may appear in supporting roles in the movies, to be better fleshed-out here. Members include Elixir, Hellion, Dust, Gentle, Rockslide, Prodigy, Anole, Surge, Pixie, Mercury, and (possibly) X-23.
  • Psylocke — Shows her as an anti-heroic assassin and British ninja, as well as her history from her old days.
  • X-Factor — Based on the '90s run with X-Factor as government agents, it stars Multiple Man, Havok, Polaris, Strong Guy and Wolfsbane as they take on various missions with Valerie Cooper acting as liaison.

Doctor Doom will get his own limited series on Disney+
Another character who could use one is Doctor Doom himself. A series that tells his origins from peasant to ruler of Latveria, brilliant scientist and powerful sorcerer, and one of the most dangerous beings on Earth, would be a big hit. Naturally, it'd be Truer to the Text than anything Fox ever did.

The integration will happen in a Secret Wars (1984) movie adaptation
Instead of grabbing parts of planets, the Beyonder will grab entire Earths from different dimensions — the MCU, X-Men, and Fantastic Four — in order to put its superhumans to fight. So it won't be goodies vs. baddies, it will be Earth A vs. Earth B vs. Earth C. As a side effect of Doctor Doom stealing the Beyonder's powers, the three Universes will merge, Crisis on Infinite Earths style. The resulting Universe will contain the union set of all three Earths' features. For some characters, this will be rather traumatic.

Gambit will be repurposed into an MCU movie
If they don't want to go the show route, it's possible that Marvel Studios will make a movie starring Gambit, like what Fox tried and failed to do. Marvel Studios is known to draw upon lesser-knowns and have proven they can make it work, and Gambit is very popular with fans already. As the drafts for the movie are already there, they have an easy source to draw from for a potential movie, while making changes to fit the universe as needed.
  • Alternatively, Gambit will be a prominent member of the cast in the first full-on MCU X-Men movie, with Marvel Studios and Disney throwing a bone to Channing Tatum and letting/having him play Gambit. If he's well received, Gambit will stay prominent and if not, he'll be written out of the plot.
    • Jossed - movie got shelved.

If Wolverine shows up, he'll be an Avenger instead of an X-Man
We already have 5 movies with Wolverine as a member of the X-Men (6 if you count his cameo in Apocalypse - not counting his solo films), so we don't need to see another one; however, he was a member of the Avengers (he even sided with them in Avengers vs X-Men), so if they didn't want to give him more solo movies, the Avengers would be the best fit for him in the MCU.

The Fantastic Four already have their powers, but aren't yet superheroes
Instead, they use their powers in secret to investigate potential paranormal threats to the world before they happen. Their introduction will show them coming into prominence in the public eye after something they were looking into turns out to be a very big deal. Said big deal? Not Doctor Doom, but the Mole Man, who attacks several cities with the enormous creatures of Monster Isle, just like in the team's very first Silver Age appearance. Their origin would be told in flashbacks and the "beat the commies to space" motivation could be replaced by the four being hired to study the "Cosmic Rays" by a company.

The Human Torch will be powered by EXTREMIS.
It's kind of an incredibly obvious connection.

Mutants will be introduced through a live-action Spiritual Successor to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends
This is something I suggested in the comments section of a WhatCulture video about little-known X-Men characters that the MCU would make popular and among those was Firestar. According to a reply, she and Iceman could appear in a future Spider-Man film where they'll lead us to Professor X and thus into the first Marvel Studios X-Men film.
  • Jossed.

Branding
Just like how they gave the Hulk his adjective & added a subtitle to Captain America & Spider-Man, Because there already is a film called Film/X-Men & a film called Fantastic Four (2005) (two to be precise, the inaugural films will have titles expanded beyond just Character Title.

Suggestions For X-Men Film

  • Generation X
  • Mutants of the Multiverse

Suggestions For Fantastic Four Film

  • Fantastic Four: World's Greatest
  • 4antastic
  • Four

Upcoming Phase 4 shows and films will introduce mutants one by one

Which mutants do you guys think will appear in each step of Phase 4?
  • Films
    • Black Widow:
      • Omega Red (Arkady Rossovich)
      • Juggernaut (Cain Marko)
      • Colossus (Peter Rasputin), Magik (Ilyana Rasputin), or Mikhail Rasputin.
      • All Jossed. However, Mikhail Uriokovitch Ursus (also known as Ursa Major) appears as one Alexi's fellow inmates. He only appears as a human, instead of his bear form.
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:
      • Rumors have suggested that Wiz Kid (Takeshi "Taki" Matsuya) may appear in the film, possibly as a civilian ally of Shang-Chi. Even if this is just a minor role, a post credits scene could show Taki being approached by an X-Men member (it really doesn't matter who) and given an offer to attend Xavier's school, thus properly teasing the X-Men.
      • Rumors also suggest that the Mandarin will be organizing a fighting tournament of some kind. Perhaps a mutant character could be among the fighters.
      • Jossed, no mutants appear in the film.
    • Eternals:
      • Since we know that at least a small part of the film will be set in England, Mister Sinister could appear as Nathaniel Essex. It could even be before he even becomes Sinister by having it be a cameo of a young Essex in the 1850s, before he becomes Sinister. Also, yes, I know he's technically not a born mutant in the comics, but why split hairs? They could make him a born mutant in the films anyway.
      • Jossed.
    • Spider-Man: No Way Home:
      • Marrow (Sarah Rushman) actually had a very, very brief role as a potential supporting character or love interest to Spider-Man. Perhaps while he's hiding away from the public or fleeing the villains, Peter could hide out in the sewers and encounter Marrow and then leave to face the dangers outside anyway shortly afterward, not wanting to pull her into his conflict. This could end up inspiring Marrow to try leaving the Morlocks' hiding places, which could lead to her joining the X-Men.
      • Iceman could make a cameo as just Bobby Drake near the end, as a reference to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
      • Jossed.
    • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
      • Trance (Hope Abbott) is a mutant at the school who can astral project. Her astral form is able to travel into other dimensions. This means she could potentially appear somewhere Doctor Strange ventures to during the movie. It'd be a neat cameo if nothing else.
      • Jossed. Professor X does make an appearance, so it is the first MCU project to feature a mutant.
    • Thor: Love and Thunder:
      • Maybe the Mutant Force, or even just a couple of their members like Slither and Peeper, could appear early on as villains easily beaten by Thor before the main plot begins.
      • Jossed.
    • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever:
      • Storm. Yes, it's unfortunate that she and T'Challa won't be able to meet each other, but that doesn't mean she couldn't appear at all. She could be explained as coming to Wakanda to recruit the other mutant mentioned just below.
      • Nezhno Abidemi/Gentle. Storm recruiting him to the school provides a great way to tease the MCU X-Men and how they operate. His being a Wakandan mutant would explicitly connect these two corners of the universe as well.
      • Jossed. It's Namor.
    • The Marvels
      • No guesses were made prior to the films release, but Beast does appear in The Stinger.
    • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:
      • Kitty Pryde, referencing her relationship with Star-Lord.
    • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania:
      • Whirlwind (David Cannon), an old foe of Janet van Dyne and Hank Pym from before Janet. Kang the Conqueror will pluck a young David out of the past (hence why nobody knows about mutants via his existence; he faded into obscurity after disappearing), give him a comics' inspired costume that enhances his abilities, and have him serve as his enforcer in the present.
      • Jossed.
    • Blade:
      • Jubilee. Whether she's going to be a vampire or not, it'd a fun Mythology Gag to feature Jubilee regardless. Her appearance being a tease of what's to come could also mean she actually gets to be relevant, unlike the original film series.
    • Fantastic Four:
  • Disney+ series
    • WandaVision:
      • Magneto or Polaris. If operating under the fact that Magneto, as a Holocaust victim, would have been too old to be MCU Wanda's father, he could possibly be retconned in as Wanda's grandfather who's been searching for his children and grandchildren. This could even keep in the connection to Natalya Maximoff (Wanda and Pietro's current biological mother) by making her and Django Maximoff (usually interpreted as their adoptive father) as Magneto's children (twins?) with Magda.
      • Jossed. The series ends with nothing hinting at neither Magneto or Wanda being a mutant. Note
    • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier:
      • Banshee (Sean Cassidy) or his daughter Siryn (Theresa Cassidy), seeing as he's an Interpol agent. Maybe even Black Tom Cassidy...
      • Psylocke, possibly as a daughter or granddaughter to the Braddock mentioned in Endgame, either as a mutant, or leaning more into in her new role as Captain Britain as this series seems to explore the legacy of being a CaptainPatriotic.
      • Daken, since even though Madripoor is shown, it seems unlikely they'd bring back Logan so soon after his sendoff film in the Fox Franchise.
      • Jossed.
    • Loki:
    • Jossed, no mutants appeared during Season 1.
    • What If...?:
    • Jossed for Season 1.
    • Ms. Marvel:
      • If this ends up being one of the series that gets a second season, I could see them having Wolverine appear for a single episode, similar to his early guest appearance in the comics.
      • Surprisingly, it's Ms. Marvel herself that's the mutant in the show.
    • Moon Knight:
      • Bora (Anzhela Federova) is a lesser known mutant villainess with ice powers who debuted in the first volume of Moon Knight, so she could appear as a secondary villain.
      • Jossed.
    • She-Hulk:
      • She-Hulk's enemy Man-Elephant (Manfred Haller), who's already a mutated human, could be could be made into a genuine mutant in the MCU. This would both streamline his origin and also allow for the series to feature a mutant character.
      • Jossed. Though Wolverine is indirectly mentioned in an online news article.
    • Secret Invasion:
      • Emma Frost could prove an interesting character to throw into a Skull infiltration plot, especially since her powers and questionable morals could prove a parallel to the varying Skrull characters.
    • Ironheart:
  • Mephisto
    • Armor Wars:
  • Other content
    • The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special:
      • Jossed. None appear.
    • I Am Groot:
      • Jossed for Season 1.

The Fantastic Four will be introduced in The Multiverse of Madness
Since the film is going to have Alternate Versions such as Supreme Strange, The Fantastic Four will likely appear in The Multiverse of Madness.
  • Slightly confirmed, since Mr. Fantastic makes an appearance.

X-Men will be introduced in The Multiverse of Madness
Since the film is going to have Alternate Versions such as Supreme Strange, the X-Men will likely appear in The Multiverse of Madness.
  • Slightly confirmed, as Professor X makes an appearance.

Deadpool will be introduced in The Multiverse of Madness
Since the film is going to have Alternate Versions such as Supreme Strange, Deadpool will likely appear in The Multiverse of Madness.
  • Jossed, Deadpool doesn't appear.

After Magneto has made his debut, he'll reveal himself to be the biological father of Wanda and Pietro.
At some point when they were very young, likely babies, the twins had to be given up for one reason or another. So Olek and Iryna Maximoff took them to Sokovia to raise them as their own. Should Wanda hear this story from him, she'll refuse to believe it, at least at first.

Since Deadpool's film is going to be R-rated, a first for the MCU, Nick Fury will be in it and say Samuel L. Jackson's signature "Motherfucker".
And Deadpool, being the Fourth-Wall Observer that he is, will comment aside how it's his film's rating that let him get away with it and add, "You're welcome."
  • Partially Jossed. ''Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the first MCU film to have an uncensored use of the word, "fucking".

Magneto, WWII and the Modern Day
Unlike just about every character in the Marvel Universe except for perhaps Captain America himself, Magneto's history is intrinsically tied to World War II, and specifically his condition of being a survivor of the camps. Considering the beginning of World War II would be almost 90 years ago by the time we see Magneto in a movie, this could be rather problematic, since he would easily be into his second century by the time we see him. So how could Marvel play this situation? Some possibilities:
  • Modified aging: A secondary mutation or aspect of his magnetic control mitigating the effects of aging on him?
  • Third party change: perhaps a deal with a player we have or haven't met providing magic/tech to slow or reverse his aging? Maybe a certain Latverian monarch is playing the long game and uses the situation to gain the favor/aid of a powerful ally?
  • Change in his relation to the Holocaust: One idea could be that he isn't a survivor himself but the son or grandson of one. A strong natural empathy (As opposed to a mutant powered one) leaves him deeply sympathetic to oppressed peoples, particularly his fellow Jews and mutants, making him a strong father figure to those who follow his cause.
  • Magneto either time travels or is frozen in time (like Steve Rogers) traverses from another Marvel Universe.
  • Magneto will only appear in the MCU's past, not present. This is similar to the more recent movies, which showcased the core mutants in their younger years.
  • His story will be retconned to being a victim of Hydra's torture during the Cold War Era.

The MCU is a post-House of M reality.
The absence of mutant characters will have been the result of a previous Wanda Maximoff variant having wiped their existence from reality. The revelation of this may be part of their introduction into the franchise.

When the X-Men (as a team) finally appear, they'll be a composite team.
Much like the MCU Avengers were for their first outing. Aka a mix of the original team and people who joined later. My picks:

  • Cyclops for obvious reasons
  • Jean Grey because besides Scott, she's the most recognizable for the original team because of what happened later.
  • Professor X because you can't have the X-Men without him.
  • Wolverine again, for obvious reasons.
  • Either Psylocke or Rogue, for Two Girls to a Team as well as both are popular enough to warrant it.
  • Colossus because of the character's popularity from the Deadpool movies.

The X-Men will be introduced/retconned via the 90s Animated series/2023 Revival AND Deadpool 3.
Instead of doing a full reboot of the franchise, the MCU will establish a "Multiverse of Mutants". Fox's X-Men: The Animated Series will become THE Mutants of the MCU, with the main characters leaving their universe and traveling to the Prime Timeline. This would explain why the animated series is getting a sequel series (X-Men '97) and why the theme song was heard in Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ms. Marvel.

Deadpool 3 will also tie the past live action films to the MCU. Deadpool will draw ire from the TVA, for traversing through the Multiverse, in order to reassemble the team. In the end, Deadpool will realize he was being manipulated by Kang or the Beyonder...and thus will leads into Secret Wars.

  • ...will have photos of Deadpool crudely inserted into the MCU sequences with Scotch tape.
  • ...will be made using clips from Ryan Reynolds' past films, and not just the ones Disney owns.
  • ...will consist of crude drawings of Deadpool made by actual young children linked to the creative/production team.
  • ...will be pictures of Deadpool action figures and collectibles in humorous and undignified scenes, like floating in a toilet or covered in mashed potatoes.

Deadpool 3 will have Deadpool go against an evil variant or clone of Wolverine.
A perfect way to bookmark Ryan Reynolds tenure as Deadpool, would be flipping Deadpool's and Wolverine's previous dynamic in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The third entry will have Deadpool as the hero...but Wolverine will be the antagonist in the film. This could be another clone of Logan or a brainwashed/corrupt version the character. This leads to Wade needing to reassemble the X-Men to take down the evil Logan.

Charles Xavier never founded the X-Men in Universe 616 or memories of the group's existence was erased from the 616 Universe.

The MCU will flip Wanda's famous line of "No More Mutants" to "No, More Mutants!
A still alive Wanda will learn about the Mutants via the Multiverse (or from a fellow Mutant, like Namor). Wanda will notice how their presence is noticely missing in Universe 616, despite existing throughout the multiverse. Despite being warned not to interfere, Wanda will do the opposite of her comic book counterpart and use her magic to awaken the power of Mutants throughout the MCU. Thus leading to the X-Men...but also the Brotherhood of Mutants.

The MCU X-Men films will reuse sets from the Fox X-Men films.
That is, if the sets still exist to be used. Because that would be economically easier on the studio than establishing new sets from the ground up, and the company merger does mean that Marvel Studios would have access to Fox's assets.
  • The sets are more likely to be rebuilt from scratch. It's unlikely that the original sets still exist. They were more likely destroyed before or after Dark Phoenix was released.

The MCU versions of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm are S.W.O.R.D agents stationed at S.A.B.E.R.
The Marvels will end with these 4 S.W.O.R.D. astronauts experiencing another space incursion mid-flight. They survive the distortion, but are genetically altered. And the film ends with the foreshadowing of the Fantastic 4.

Anyone else considered to play Reed Richards will instead become members of the Council of Reeds
This will include such actors as Adam Driver, Penn Badgley, Dev Patel, Matt Smith, Jake Gyllenhaal, Christopher Abbott, and Jamie Dornan, and they'll be led by Alex Hyde-White, Ioan Gruffudd, Miles Teller, and John Krasinski. Together, they'll serve as a Good Counterpart to the Council of Kangs, at least until Miles Teller potentially goes rogue, becomes The Maker, and upstages Kang as the true Big Bad of the Multiverse Saga.

The F4 were heroes in the 60s that goes ereased from existence
Some event probably tied to Secret Wars and the Beyonders ereased them from existence and from everyone's memory. That way they can still be the First Family and give an explanation to why they haven't appeared thus far.
