WMG / Kevin Can F**k Himself

Kevin will be revealed in the 'real life' view of the show, and it won't be fun
So far we've seen Kevin's childish antics and selfish manipulations of Allison played out as a badly-written sitcom with real-world consequences. Given the much grimmer view of life in the 'real' sections of the show, towards the end of the series Kevin will make an appearance in a decidedly more realistic portrayal of a domineering lout of a husband, perhaps being violent and cruel in ways a sitcom husband would never be portrayed.
  • But first, we could see Pete and Neil outside of the sitcom filter, building up to Kevin himself.
    • Confirmed with Neil as of the Season 1 finale, so there's a very real possibility that Pete and Kevin will both have moments that break them out of the sitcom world.
  • Confirmed: in the grand finale, we do indeed see Kevin with the sitcom filter taken off, and he is indeed a violent, cruel, domineering lout of a husband.
  • Jossed for Pete, who never breaks out of the sitcom filter. Despite this he is still able to see Kevin for who he really is and decides to cut all ties with him, so presumably he and Lorraine have their own Spin-Off set in Florida.

There are other people in this world who have a "sitcom effect" on their surroundings like Kevin
  • Should Kevin actually die, one of these people will be introduced in the "real world" only for Allison to hear a Laugh Track play after they make a bad joke. The following scene will be from the new character's own sitcom perspective, and then transform into an "ad" for a "new show" starring said character and their own put upon significant other, friend, or co-worker, who's stuck with them like Allison was with Kevin.
    • Sort of confirmed. While not that exact situation, when Alison's emotionally abusive mother appears onscreen, she has the same "sitcom effect" as Kevin
    • Confirmed in the first season finale, where Neil is able to generate a "sitcom effect" without Kevin being present (until Patty shatters it with her bottle). Pete has very little screentime without Kevin, but there's just enough that it's strongly implied he generates his own "sitcom effect" independent of Kevin's, which makes sense given his own unpleasant personality, and how it was responsible for Kevin being the way he is in the first place.
    • When Allison briefly considers going along with Kevin's plan to frame Tammy, the sitcom effect lingers on her even after Kevin has left the room, which has never happened before. This more than anything else makes clear that the sitcom effect is generated by selfishness, lack of empathy, and a destructive intent.

Neil's disorder will be explored in a very dark episode
Neil's current status as a giant manchild has already been deconstructed a little from Patty's revelation about their shared past (absent father, mother died when they were young). This will get a more thorough examination in the 'real world' where there's nothing to laugh at whatsoever as it's revealed how serious a situation it is and/or how deleterious Kevin's influence is on him.
  • This is explored a little bit in the first season finale, when he attacks Allison and ends up being pulled into the "real world". Despite being a "giant manchild", he's still a genuine physical threat to Allison, and he could have seriously hurt her (or even killed her) had Patty not intervened. Presumably it will be explored further in the second season.

A moment of "slapstick" involving Pete will result in him being seriously injured
As an unfortunate result of Kevin's antics, no doubt. Whatever said incident is doesn't matter, but Pete's injuries will be bad enough to put him in hospital. Since Kevin is ridiculously self-centred, he'll barely give a crap about his own dad and not even visit him while he's recovering. Allison, however, will visit him, leading to Pete appearing in the more realistic scenes, where he'll finally see his son for who he really is and realize that he's been complicit in Kevin's actions since he was just a boy. It will end badly though; Pete will either die shortly afterwards or get shipped off to a (very crappy) nursing home by Kevin.
  • If Pete does get killed off, the funeral will be of the sitcom variant ... but we will get to see the serious, real-life consequences of this trope.
  • Alternatively, Kevin will try to use Pete's funeral as a way to garner sympathy votes for the upcoming local election by telling a sweet heartwarming story about when he was a lonely kid and Pete helped him gain the confidence to make his first real friend in Neil. After laugh track goes "awww", we'll cut to Allison and Patty (and maybe even Neil) outside, and their conversation will be about how Kevin actually became friends with Neil, revealing that he exaggerated and sanitized the details to make it more of a crowd pleaser.

  • Jossed. Pete not only doesn't die, he survives his son.

Patty is a lesbian, not bisexual.
Yes, she has a relationship with Kurt, but her feelings towards him are pretty tepid, to the point that she forgets about his marriage proposal literally the day after he makes it. Not to mention she shows no interest in any other men, so that relationship could have been Patty going through the motions of compulsory heterosexuality.

Neil has violent tendencies and possibly murdered someone before. He will become the main villain of season 2.
Going by some of the dialogue, he's an arsonist and has been in prison at least once. It's then shown in the season finale that he's willing to kill Allison for trying to kill Kevin. It is possible that he may have killed someone before, maybe because that person was trying to expose Kevin. And he abused Patty into covering it up and making it their "little secret". With a combination of staying in the "sitcom" world for years and Patty's betrayal towards him, he may end up suffering a Sanity Slippage which will culminate in him becoming a psychopathic Big Bad in Season 2 and get revenge on Allison and Patty for taking away "everything" from him. He'll basically be revealed as Kevin's Lady Macbeth.
  • Jossed: Neil's main storyline in season 2 is his redemption. Kevin was the arsonist, and framed Neil for it. If anyone is Kevin's Lady Macbeth it's Pete, his enabler.

Allison's perspective isn't "objective reality", but rather representative of her crime-drama perspective of the world
Allison is surprisingly quick to jump to the idea of murdering her husband and has some other dark moments of violence. Perhaps her viewpoint is not objective reality, but rather her way of seeing the world, mirroring shows like Breaking Bad and Ozark, just like Kevin sees everything like it's a crappy sitcom. As the show goes on, we'll see her actions from a more objective perspective (e.g. a documentary, or a news report).
  • Jossed. Allison’s House, among other episodes in season 2, shows several scenes with Allison absent that have the atmosphere that’s present when she’s out of Kevin’s line of sight.

If we ever get a Flashback Episode (or even just a decently long flashback sequence) to when the characters were younger, the sitcom parody will be different
Specifically, it'll either be modeled on a real sitcom that was been popular during the time the flashback is set or it'll take cues from a sitcom aimed at a younger demographic, possibly a Disney Channel or Nickelodeon style Kid Com (should it be to a character's youth). Even the canned laughter could be different. It could be set up as a Happy Flashback only for the rug to be pulled out from under our feet, leading to "real world" scenes for that too. This would demonstrate just how deep the skewed view of the world goes.

Grateful for Patty saving her life, Allison will work on becoming a better person for her. But Neil is planning his revenge against her by having her killed like she was trying to do with Kevin. Their rivalry will be similar to Nanno and Yuri from Girl from Nowhere where Allison will be Nanno and Neil will be Yuri.
Allison is touched by Patty saving her from Neil's wrath despite their argument earlier. She will ultimately have a Heel Realization which will make her want to be a better person and come up with a more safe and non-malicious way to escape from Kevin's clutches and expose him for who he really is. However, Neil will not take all of this well since he will blame her for "ruining" his life and "manipulating" Patty under her "spell". The combination of being stuck in the sitcom world for too long and Patty choosing Allison over him will culminate in him being a Psychopathic Manchild where he himself plans on killing Allison, similar to how she tried to plan to kill Kevin. It will even show him as a Shadow Archetype for Allison if she let her wrath and bloodlust consume her. Their rivalry will be similar to Nanno and Yuri's from Girl from Nowhere where Allison will represent karma for evil misdeeds while Neil will represent violent revenge and chaos against her for taking everything away from him. And similar to what happened with Nanno in the season 2 finale, Neil will also manipulate someone into becoming his evil protege and join him in causing more chaos and have Allison stabbed multiple times and left for dead.

The series is a darker and edgier fanfiction of a sitcom
Think about it, the perspective shifts would be like the scenes written for the fanfiction, which has a darker tone and would show in the reader's mind as dramatic, but some scenes written are ripped from episodes, which in the mind of a reader would have a "can't unheard this" effect if they remember seeing it on TV, thus picturing certain scenes as how they would appear in the sitcom with the laugh track and stuff. The author would have started writing this as a black comedy joke fic meant to be a Take That Scrappy towards Kevin with Ensemble Dark Horse Allison fantasizing about murdering him, but as the fic gained a bunch of fans, the author continued writing it as more of a black dramady. The author makes fun of some of the sitcom tropes, addresses complaints of the show, such as Patty and Allison not getting enough screentime, Allison and Sam might be a fandom preferred couple (though the author might ship tease Allison and Patty, which is it does happen in show, it could count as Ships that Pass in the Night), Neil and Patty's childhood trauma is expanded on a bit. If the show ends up being cancelled before it comes to a reasonable conclusion, it can be chalked up to the author not finishing the fanfic.

Also the sitcom the fanfic is based off is called "All This and Kevin Too" (since irl the show is mocking Kevin Can Wait, a pun on "heaven can wait").

Kevin is a Hypocrite who has been cheating on Allison for years
It will possibly be revealed in the second season that Kevin has actually been cheating on Allison for years with different younger women and is a hypocrite towards her for thinking she was cheating on him with her paralegal boss, meaning that he is allowed to cheat and she is not.
  • He even jokes about this in the last episode when he's running for office, comparing himself to JFK and stating that if Allison is his "Jackie", he should also have a "Marilyn".

  • Jossed, ironically just about Kevin's only virtue as a husband is that he seemed to be faithful to Allison (which makes sense in sitcom logic: audiences will forgive all kinds of Comedic Sociopathy but they usually draw the line at adultery). Although he recovers very quickly after she "dies".

Tammy is using her relationship with Patty to investigate her
She's seen Nick hanging around at Patty's salon, and knows that Patty was in the pharmacist's when it was raided. One of those circumstances on its own could just be happenstance, but both of them? She is also able to pick up on the fact that Patty's salon doesn't do much by way of actual (ie. legitimate) business, which could lead a seasoned police detective like herself to wonder whether it could be a front for something more nefarious. Plus, she's been on the receiving end of some cryptic comments from Kurt about how Patty may be hiding something. Therefore, Tammy's trying to get closer to Patty in the hope of finding something incriminating about her. Maybe she left her notebook out as a test to see if Patty would read it, which she did (albeit for different reasons).

When Kevin is forced into the real world...
That is when the series drift from using the sitcom concept and it becomes a Dramady involving a married couple trying to repair their marriage. Which ends up reconstructing the very concept it was deconstructing.

When we eventually get introduced to some of the cast's parents (not counting Pete)...
They'll be played by actors from actual sitcoms. They'll be superficially similar to the characters they played in said shows, but quickly shown to be very different from them.
  • Patty and Neil's late mother will appear and be played by someone who's sitcom character who had a Missing Mom.
  • The Devines, Allison's folks, will be played by actors who actually were in happy marriages in their respective sitcoms.
  • Kevin's mother will be played by an actress who played the mom character in a Disney Channel or Nickelodeon Kid Com, in order to help convey that his sitcom-like view on the world has been in place since his childhood.
  • One of Sam's parents will be played by an actor who were either a Satellite Love Interest, Token Minority, or a Mean Boss character from yet another sitcom.

  • Partly confirmed in that Allison's mom is played by Peri Gilpin in a cameo appearance; her character Roz Doyle technically was a mother, though this was seldom emphasized in storylines.

Season 2 will have a Thanksgiving or Christmas episode
In which several sitcom Holiday Tropes will be ruthlessly deconstructed.
  • We do get a Halloween Episode, though the holiday only plays a secondary role with Kevin and company spending the holiday watching horror movies and eating sweets.

From the world around him shifting into sitcom vision, every time he enters the area, to how the people he'd interact with bend to his will the series could be looked at as a black comedy about a human woman being married to a Lovecraftian creature.

Kevin's opponent will be a P.O.C gay man, who is an Only Sane Man in Worcester (aside from Patty and Sam) wanting to become the mayor to make the town a safe place for LGBTQ+ person of colour individuals like him. His adopted daughter will also turn out to be Patty's biological child.
Since the Season 1 finale ended with Kevin running for the city council mayor For the Evulz, a more professional, honest and Closer to Earth will be introduced as his opponent for the elections, similar to Phillip Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He takes the major issues in the world very seriously, not just around Worcester, but what's happening currently in the entire world (namely the continuous racist attacks and terrorism against LGBTQ+ individuals and women) and wants to make Worcester a better and safe place for people like him, motivated by a tragic Dark and Troubled Past in his life related to what his family went through and what made them migrate to U.S.A. in the first place. His campaign manager turns out to be his husband as well and they have a 22-year-old daughter together, who herself is bisexual and dating a trans man. The daughter is later revealed to be Patty's biological daughter, because Patty had gone through Teen Pregnancy at the age of either 13 or 15 and was forced to give her up for adoption due to the fact that she didn't have enough to provide for her, didn't want her to live a life of misery like she did and Neil and Kevin are completely dependent on her. So, Patty and the daughter will reunite and bond but the former will also get along with her parents well. However, Kevin being Kevin, he is extremely homophobic and racist (he even got a mailwoman deported once) and will have a strong hatred for the opponent based on that fact, doing Malicious Slander against him, claiming that he is "making the town filthy with "Gay propaganda." Patty, with Allison's help, needs to protect her daughter and her gay parents from his harm. But Neil, hellbent on revenge and bloodlust against Allison for "ruining his life", will make the situation more complicated out of pettiness and become a Lady Macbeth for Kevin, suggesting some choices for him to make it worse.
  • Alternatively, his opponent will be someone who Kevin would actually look good next to; a sleazy Jerkass who doesn't even attempt to be charismatic and is clearly corrupt. That is, that's how they'll be in the sitcom, while scenes where Kevin isn't present will present them in a more nuanced way.

Kevin will be revealed in the 'real life' view of the show, and it will result in a genre shift.
More like diverging away from the sitcom world and would rather focus on how to reconstruct the sitcom tropes into the real world.

Neil will become the main villain of Season 2, he will be similar to Ernst Stavro Blofeld from Spectre where he will have a petty misogynistic vendetta to kill Allison for "stealing" Kevin and turning Patty against him.
Like it was mentioned before he has been in prison before and is an arsonist and in the finale he was revealed to have a huge disdain for Allison because he was jealous of all the "attention" she was given by Kevin (which she didn't even want in the first place). Just like what the officer interrogating Allison said, "You never know someone who may have a dark side.", it's possible we will see Neil's much darker and evil side where he is a wrathful and vengeful Straw Misogynist Psychopathic Manchild who believes this is all Allison's fault just because she wasn't able to deal with the reality that she is just a "wife who is supposed to stay in the kitchen and serve her husband and obey him." As revenge for his life being "ruined", he will have his own vendetta to kill Allison, like the vendetta she had to kill Kevin which now she has abandoned to find a more safer approach. Neil will even serve as Allison's Shadow Archetype where her motive was finding freedom and liberation from her life and while Neil's motive to murder her is revenge and bloodlust. He will basically represent what Allison would've become had she not been in control of her rage and had not have a support system in Patty. Neil has such a huge bloodlust and rage against Allison that he wants her to die a painful, slow and bloody death.

  • Jossed. While Neil is aggressive towards Allison and never fully forgives her for anything, he doesn't go out of his way to harm and target her.

Neil is the one who kills Kevin
It's being build-up that one of Kevin's pot shots at him will eventually be what pushes Neil over the edge. The sitcom world will play it up in an over-the-top slapstick manner but the end results get serious once it shifts to the real world.

This closes the series on a bittersweet note as Allison is finally free of Kevin but Neil will more than likely face consequences for Kevin's death.

  • Jossed, since Kevin is the one who ultimately does himself in, albeit by accident.
