The identity of the Big Bad
  • Necrovia is one possibility.
    • Part 1's ending makes it clear that she knows about the "Faraway Dream" book despite the original story's rarity, putting her in the best position to manipulate events to match the book.
    • She's the one who told Karnel about the Black Wind, which seems like an altruistic act. Given the above point, Necrovia most likely needed to do so in order to move the story along.
    • She seemed to have interfered with Ellevark's teleportation spell when the party had to escape from the Midage Unit. She could have done so in a way that guarantees he ends up in Northyne, as per the story.
    • In the ending sequence, she can hold Ellevark's connecting pathway open for 10 seconds without needing the Magic Pillar, which means she's better with time magic than Ellevark. Perhaps she was able to move freely to the continent all along and found out about Ellevark that way. Maybe she's secretly a Time and Creation Celestial too.
    • After getting everyone else through the pathway, Necrovia insists on staying behind to help the other soldiers and to stop the Dark Lord. This may have been a cover to perform additional measures needed to revive the Dark Lord, since it didn't revive for a good while after the Philosopher's Stone's destruction.
    • She seemed oddly fixated on fighting Ellevark instead of finding the Philosopher's Stone. Since he can rewind time, she might have wanted to kill him to prevent him from undoing the Dark Lord's revival. On the flip side, maybe she feared that Ellevark would be the one to destroy the stone and awaken the Dark Lord.
  • Fenny as the Big Bad would be a much bigger twist due to her status as a civilian, but it would also fit in with some of her scenes.
    • She and Marinet are the only characters to show up in the same locations as the party, and the latter only knew because of the "Faraway Story" book. If she's the one directing the plot, this would explain her coincidental encounters with Pia.
    • She's apparently a storyteller because her father was a writer who failed to achieve his dreams. Perhaps she's a Celestial and her father was the one who wrote the "Faraway Dream" book over a century ago, but the Downer Ending caused it to become unpopular. As revenge, she wants to force the entire world to act out her father's story, and she used her Celestial lifespan to precisely manipulate events to eventually fit the book.
    • In Finstaria, Fenny is telling a story to some kids, but they complain about how everyone dies in the ending, including the hero and princess, just when they were about to beat the villain. This is vaguely similar to Faraway Dream and the Part 1 ending, where the heroes seem to win by destroying the Philosopher's Stone, only for the Dark Lord to show up and for the princess equivalent, Remi, to die.
    • She's well-versed in the story of Origin and how he needed a God of Destruction to help destroy unnecessary creations, but she doesn't like that story because it reminds her that her stories and life will be forgotten. If she was a Celestial, it would make sense for her to know about the gods. Not to mention that her fear of having her stories forgotten may have caused her to end it all to ensure the world dies with her tales.
  • Alternatively, they're in cahoots with each other, but Necrovia will be suspected first.
  • Another possibility is that Necrovia is an Unwitting Pawn for Fenny. In Part 2, she claims to have an informant to help her stay one step ahead of the party when they try to flee Erance.
  • Since their hair color is similar and Necrovia is never seen without her hood, it's possible that the two are actually the same character. Not to mention that when Fenny performs for the king, Necrovia is the only Midage Unit member not present. Though for the Unwitting Pawn hypothesis this could be seen as a way for Necrovia not to run into her informant and recognize her.
    • Necrovia is shown to be inept at using weapons, which could be the reason why Fenny is poor at knife-throwing.
Remi is the noble girl Ellevark met 11 years ago
  • In Part 2, only powerful Celestials and those close to Ellevark will remember him in the next loop. When he meets Remi while escaping from Erance Castle, she remembers his name, which implies that she is the girl that he met 11 years ago and that the meeting left a deep impression on her.
  • Ellevark tried and failed several times to break the Philosopher's Stone. Maybe when he unknowingly broke a chip off, which stuck to his close and dropped when he met Remi. Then she discovered the fragment and realized the Philosopher's Stone is real.
Pia was kidnapped at the start of Part 2.
The Big Bad knows that she isn't a character in the story and that she might become a Spanner in the Works during the new timeline. Therefore, they would want to get her out of the picture and force Ellevark to only recruit allies specified in the book. This would certainly fit with Pia's mysterious disappearance despite evidence that she tried to buy the Rune Hill shop in Port Fina. Following that, maybe the Big Bad will make Pia into a Brainwashed and Crazy minion, which would also ensure that all playable characters have boss battles.
  • Jossed. Pia was in Memoril the whole time.

There will be a harder Duel Boss battle against Ellevark in Part 2.
By the time Pia rejoins in Part 2, Pia will be overleveled for the Ellevark duel mission. Therefore, Ellevark will most likely be balanced to face Pia at endgame levels. Additionally, Part 2 shows that Ellevark has some weapon specific skills that never showed up in his first fight. Maybe like the player, the enemy version of Ellevark will have the ability to change weapons in order to use different skills and attack at different ranges.
  • In Part 2, Pia rejoins, but is unable to be selected as leader due to the new leadership exam requirement. It would be hard to design a solo dungeon around her due to the fact that her Element Graph is customizable, so a duel with Ellevark would be the next best test of the player's proficiency with Pia.
