Eruk's translator is a bit more accurate than it seems
It isn't perfect (the conversation where you get it has him note that it isn't always possible to translate perfectly between the two languages it is designed for, but it will try to give a sense of the range of meanings in what is being said), but it would generally be able to narrow it down a bit more and not be uncertain so often... if the speakers of the Hai language are actually Hai, eg. the people for whom it is their native language and on which the translator was tested. The Wanderers, speaking it as a second language and with different mouths and vocal chords, throw in just enough difference to confuse the translator, and every conversation using the translator that is relayed to the player is with them.

There are non-villainous Alphas
Every Alpha encountered or indirectly involved through their actions backs up the hostile impression mainstream humanity have of the Alphas, but there is a form of selection bias going on: Alphas that eschew meddling in human affairs (and alien affairs, at least when it is so open as what the ones behind the Sestor incident were up to) are far less likely to be discovered. There may very well be Alpha groups that just want to be left alone in peace out there.

The Quarg deliberately engineered their tech's high energy consumption to prevent reverse-engineering.
The Flavor Text for the Korath Planetary-Class engines says that the Quarg prefer to "do all things efficiently," but this isn't reflected in the stats of their Medium Graviton Engines or Steering systems, which have the worst energy consumption and efficiency in the game (though their mass and heat efficiency are both above-average). This basically means you have to also have the Antimatter Core and Nanotech Battery to get any use out of them; you can't use any other species' power systems. This WMG proposes that the Quarg designed this flaw on purpose to make it a pain for other species to use their technology without permission.
