Sister Michael is a closeted lesbian
  • That's why she isn't charmed by Father Peter's looks, and why she ultimately ignores Jenny Joyce's objections to the publication of the newspaper story about the lesbian student. Chances are, that's also why Sister Michael became a nun in the first place; so she could avoid being pressured to get married.
    • When I first read this, I thought it was a good theory and made perfect sense. However, on rewatch, I don’t think it is supported. On her desk there are photographs of hunky half nude men (I think I can make out Hasselhoff and Tom Selleck). For some characters, you could argue that this is overcompensation and camouflage. However, considering how inappropriate it is for a nun to have those photographs, I think it is just an example of her being a bad nun.
      • I didn't notice those pictures on her desk; perhaps she's just a fan of the TV shows they star in, and not attracted to them sexually? Or she's bisexual.

Erin has a thing for James (and James has a thing for Erin)
  • Erin wanted to ensure that James didn't end up with Katya because she didn't want to see James with somebody else.
  • James has also always been very quick to comfort Erin with things go wrong. It could just be because he is just naturally nice, but it could be because he has a thing for her.
  • Erin also seems willing to watch James have sex if that's what it takes.
    • James was also wiling to have sex with Erin watching.
  • He drops his Doctor Who marathon to take Erin to the prom when her date stands her up.
  • Confirmed through Word of God. And moreso in season 3 where James confesses his feelings to Erin, and they share a kiss.

James is bisexual and will realize and come out as such.
  • He definitely had a crush on Father Peter and whilst the situation with Katya could have been (unconsciously) motivated by a desire to cease the accusations and jokes about him being gay, he seemed a little too genuinely eager to have sex with her. Could be a fun way to flip his Character Catchphrase- after an episode of him considering his sexuality, someone calls him gay and he answers his typical “I’m not gay-” only to add “I’m bisexual.”
    • It seems to me that James has a Michael Scott-style "man crush" towards Father Peter, but is otherwise only attracted to women.

Erin now has a sterling purse and a Euro purse.
  • We all turn into our parents eventually...
  • Sure, you don't want to be caught punt-less

We're not watching the events of Derry Girls as they happened in The '90s, but in the present day as a flashback of one (or all) of the protagonists.
  • This could explain various anachronisms in the show, like songs appearing years before they came out; they are the results of someone's imperfect memory. The ambiguous timeline is the result of the years running together in the memories of whoever is recounting these events.
    • It's obviously Colm telling a story.
      • They're too interesting to be Colm's stories, unless Colm somehow managed to get more interesting between when the stories took place and when he's telling them; perhaps his boringness in the series is a self-deprecation of his previous boring self? That said, he always seemed to be a stickler for minor details, so I wouldn't see anachronisms like "I'm Shipping Up To Boston" (which came out in 2005) showing up in his retelling (unless he's just really out-of-touch regarding popular music).
      • Colm’s stories are hilarious actually. It’s just that he tells them all in a monotone while dithering on about insignificant details.

There will be a crossover with Father Ted
  • Because of course there's gonna be one eventually.
    • It’d be a bit difficult, considering 2/4 Father Ted cast members are dead and it takes place at the other end of the country. Plus they’re tonally inconsistent.
      • Father Ted (or an Expy of that show) might be shown in a later series as an in-universe fictional work; perhaps at some point it will be revealed that Sister Michael is a Father Ted fan, or the school will ban students from watching it?
    • Also, Ardal O'Hanlon already played Erin and Orla's cousin Eammon in "The Curse".

Colm is on the Spectrum, but undiagnosed
  • Note the lack of inflection in his voice, and when he's retelling stories the obsession with minor details like the heights of his kidnappers or which of his shoelaces they've used to tie him up; if he was born more recently, he would have been diagnosed with Asperger's or ASD.
    • Much, much more likely is that he is as presented in the show. IE, very, very boring, and the lack of inflection and obsession with minor details is just to emphasise that fact.

A future episode will have the quintet involved in and/or accused of a crime
One or more of the members will be suspected in something like a murder and have to figure out who the true culprit is.
  • Confirmed, but not to do with murder. The crime is a robbery at the school.

James will Take a Level in Jerkass in Season 3
Now that he's officially part of the Derry Girls, either he'll be influenced by the girls, become more reckless and gain a bigger role in their schemes, or he'll grow more of an attitude and start lightly snipping back at Michelle and the girls when they insult him.

Inversely, Michelle will Take a Level in Kindness in Season 3
At least regarding James. With him having decided to stay back at the end of Season 2, she might warm up to him, or at least be slightly less of a shrew towards him while still retaining her overall aggressiveness.
  • She kinda of already Took a Level in Kindness in Season 2. She's far from friendly or remotely nice, but she is noticeably less aggressive and insulting towards James.

At some point, James will snap and give a "The Reason You Suck" Speech to the girls
  • Well, his speech about why he thinks about going with his mom at the end of season 2 could count, as he points out he never really felt at home in Derry and muses his good experiences might have been Stockholm Syndrome. (Catch yourself on he's never even been to Switzerland)
    • That was less of a "The Reason You Suck" Speech and more of excuses on why he wanted to leave Derry. I'm thinking more of after the girls really screw him over somehow (possibly breaking up a promising relationship/friendship, humiliating him in public or getting him in trouble), he'll go on a rant about how they mistreated him, hammer on each of their individual flaws and temporarily leave the group.

Clare would get a girlfriend in Season 3
  • Confirmed. She shares a kiss with the girl working in the record shop with the implication that it'll go further.

Erin and James will get together by the series finale
  • Jossed. They share a brief kiss, but Michelle objects and they decide to stay friends (at least for the moment) so as not to destroy the group. No reason they couldn't get together after the series, though.

An Our Lady Immaculate College pupil (or multiple pupils) will fall in love with James
Possibly forming a Love Triangle with Erin.

Should Michelle learn of James and Erin being interested in each other, she will initially have a negative reaction
Either she gets mad at Erin for trying to get together with her cousin, she gets mad at James for jeopardizing their friendship with Erin, or gets mad at both for the stated reasons.
  • Confirmed.
Michelle: This can't happen. Okay? You two can't get together, because — putting aside the fact that it makes me want to boke my actual ring up — if you get together, you'll break up, and then where does that leave me, Erin? You might be my best friend but he's my cousin, and dickhead or not, I'll have to stick with him. Don't put me in that position.

Inversely, Michelle will be an active Shipper on Deck for James and Erin
In her usual bombastic, straight-to-the-point fashion, she'll encourage James and/or Erin to come forward with their feelings to each other.
  • Jossed. When she sees them kissing, she's disgusted, comparing it to incest.

Erin, Orla or Michelle will experiment with Clare

The series finale will have a Flash Forward to the five as adults (and possibly their children)
  • Confirmed, but downplayed. The final episode takes place the year after series 3 with a final scene taking place in the present day, though not showing what happened to the girls, but instead featuring Chelsea Clinton receiving a letter from Erin that got lost and only found its way to her twenty five years later.

When Erin gets married, Gerry will be as hostile towards Erin's husband as Joe is to Gerry
  • Gerry will rationalize it as a "now it's my turn" situation; if Joe is still alive by the time Erin gets married, he will either be equally hostile towards her husband or will get along really well with him in order to remain opposed to Gerry.
The audience will meet the real Artem in a later series

Someone will finally acknowledge the baby in series 3
  • (Besides Gerry’s one line in the first episode.)
  • The baby will play a central role in one of the S3 episodes, perhaps with the girls being called upon to babysit her. Hilarity will ensue.
  • Jossed. She appears, older, but with little or no interaction.

Orla is on the autism spectrum
  • Orla displays a number of ASD traits like taking things literally, missing social cues, not liking her socks, and often covering her ears when other characters fight. She may also use her step aerobics and always having something in her mouth as stims.
    • She is related to Colm, who in another WMG was himself considered to be possibly on the spectrum, and autism does tend to run in families...

Orla is a saint.
  • As Erin puts it, Orla has Delusional Personality Disorder. Who else's visions are speculated to be DPD? Joan of Arc. Just like Joan, Orla lives in a country during war, one of the participants being England. Orla also believes in deities and their powers. And nobody bothered to explain why the statue didn't smirk at her, since she is a Cloudcookoolander. But maybe she is a saint in the making instead.
