The story follows a woman who returns to her hometown of Winter Haven for the holidays. Her boss, Nick Peralta, follows her to give her some manuscripts to read over the break and gets stranded. Meanwhile, her childhood friend Holly Wright has written a book that she wants to get published. The protagonist asks Nick to partake in the festivities so he will understand the book and fast-track it to publication. Meanwhile, the protagonist's boyfriend from high school wants to make up for lost time.
