She's no Yan-chan but she's just as scary.

Yandere School is first-person indie action game created by Tea and Cake Games and released on September 1, 2017. It is closely inspired by Yandere Simulator, another yandere game still in development by Yandere Dev. However, unlike Yandere Simulator, the setting and functions in Yandere School are far more simplistic, with no time limit, and your only required tasks being to kill your rivals and hiding their bodies.

The story follows Japanese high school student Akari Furutaka, who falls in love with the school's pretty boy, Makio Sono. However, in the bathroom she overhears a girl talking about Makio and how she plans to ask him out, which angers Akari, ultimately making her decide to go to lethal means of getting rid of her competition. Throughout the course of four days, Akari must discretely eliminate her rivals, which includes a mean girl, an ephebophile nurse, a foreign exchange student, and Makio's arranged bride.

Game provides examples of:

  • Adults Are Useless:
    • Teachers who catch you committing murder won't physically restrain you, but you'll still get a game over.
    • Likewise they never seem to catch on to the fact that a number of their female students are missing. This is most strange considering how serious school is taken in Japan.
  • Anime Hair: Many of the girls wear their hair in dyed colors. Akari herself has dark purple hair that resembles that of Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club.
  • Anyone Can Die: You can kill absolutely anyone here, but if you kill anyone but your intended target, you automatically lose the game. You can still complete your objective, but you will no longer be able to move forward with the story, forcing you to restart the game.
  • Arranged Marriage: Yuka says that her and Makio's family decided they were to be wed when they were both, which is why she calls him her husband.
  • Badass Bystander: Averted. No matter who and how many people witness you committing murder, they will simply scream in terror and run away, whether that be a teacher or student.
  • Batter Up!: A baseball bat is one of the weapons you can use.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Makio in the end decides that Akari is the girl for him, because she was the only one girl who stuck around while all the others left him. Little does he know...
  • Bittersweet Ending: Akari successfully gets Makio, but some girls had to die for this to happen. Some like, Ava the exchange student, were genuinely nice girls, so much that one wonders whether Akari felt any traces of remorse in brutally killing her. Sadly, considering she's a yandere, we're certain that she didn't.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Many of the male students, namely Makio, have blonde hair and blue eyes, fitting the typical appearance of a European in Japan. Justified with Ava who is explicitly stated to be an exchange student from Eastern Europe, and thus would be expected to have this appearance.
  • Chick Magnet: Makio attracts the attention of Akari and four other girls.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Akari speaks in a flat but calm, soothing tone even after killing and disposing of a body.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: Akari has a crush on the Nice Guy Makio with blond hair.
  • Expy: Since this is Yandere Simulator-inspired game, naturally many characters here are closely modeled after them.
    • Akari Furutaka for Ayano "Yandere-chan" Aishi
    • Makio Sono for Taro "Senpai" Yamada
    • The school nurse here is a mashup of Nasu Kankoshi (for her profession), and of Mida Rana, the horny, ephebophilic substitute teacher.
  • Green-Eyed Epiphany: Akari realizes that she loves Makio after overhearing two girls talking about him.
  • Late for School: If you even decide to attend class, you can walk into class late. However, unlike in Yandere Simulator where being late is detrimental, here you can do as many times as you please.
  • Sensual Slav: Subverted with Ava. While she certainly is pretty, she's no more attractive than all of the other girls in school. She's also very soft-spoken and shy.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: When Akari and Makio finally hook up in the end and have sex at her house, the two are completely naked, with only a blanket just barely covering their lower waist, and Akari's arm covering her breasts.
  • Villain Protagonist: You control Akari as she kills people getting between her and Makio Sono.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Akari's deep, monotonous voice seems way off for her short and child-like appearance.
  • Yandere: Of course, our protagonist Akari.
