Pretty Accurate name there

"Friend! Tis' not all about copying my rhythm! Make up your own, if you can!"

VS Starecrown by jofini, full name of the mod "VS.STARECROWN FULL-Funk Like Somebody's Watchin'!", is a Friday Night Funkin' mod where, would you look at that! It seems word of your talent has spread even to alternate dimensions!

Meet STARECROWN, everyone's favourite inter-dimensional anomaly with a love for golf and donating to charity! He has been very eager to discover what you and your girlfriend will do next, even making sure to never miss a moment. What else would you do if such beautiful vocal cords could produce that euphoric sound at any time? Thankfully, Starecrown is equipped with never blinking eyes, a tall stature so he can observe your singing from any angle, and the willpower to carry on. Watching. Ever day. Every second. Every moment. But now, due to certain peer influence, Starecrown is beginning to realize something. He is contemplating leaving the darkness and showing boyfriend his existence. While Stare does idolize him, not only can this change in an instant, but Starecrown has been known to get too excited, which really only has one resulting action. Well, let's just say sometimes your organs might be slightly easier to find :)

VS Starecrown Songlist

  1. STARE (Starecrown)
  2. Staredown (Starecrown)
  3. Body Inversion (Edgecrown)
  4. Madness (Bonus Song, Starecrown)
  5. Operation FrogSong (Fred the Frog)

This mod provides examples of:

  • Angelic Abomination: Starecrown is an Inter-dimensional Angel, is stated to have 28751834567481356713406e1486.5 teeth (more then the amount of observable atoms in the universe), always watching as the mod description describes, and the spots on his crown are implied to be eyes. He does have a more "normal" humanoid angel form, as shown at the end of Body Inversion.
  • Aside Glance: Starecrown occasionally glances towards the screen; the first time as if to establish he knows you're there, and the second - after a Jump Scare - to see how you've reacted.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall:
    • When Starecrown addresses Boyfriend by name for the intro to "Staredown". No, not just simply his name, his file name.
      Starecrown: I̴͔̖͝'̷̼̈v̸͓̰͝e̵̞͎̚ ̷͋̄͜ḇ̶̣̅e̷͕̓ḙ̷͝n̵̳̋̿ ̵͉̯̔c̶̟̰̏́ṙ̴̬̖͘a̶͚͑̓v̶̘̕̕i̴̤͗͠n̸̲̍̏ģ̵̗͝ ̶̜̘͆͂t̸̟͠h̴̭̄i̶̛͓̹s̸̝̆̂ ̴̨̏f̶̻̎ó̸̫͍̾r̷̪̊̊ ̵̺̎̓a̶̧̔ ̷̲̟̔͑w̸͕̎́h̷͎̯͒͒ì̴͍l̵͔͑̐ḛ̸̠̑,̴̙̔ ̷̠̦́b̷̤̐o̷͕̽y̷̳̆f̷͔̠́̕r̸̪̄i̷̧̓e̶͍̎̚n̴̰͓͐d̶̡͒.̶̫̖͑x̸͕̜͑̍m̸̖̠̎l̷̨̰͋.̸̦͂̾..
    • After his first note in "STARE", Starecrown takes a brief moment to avert his gaze towards the camera, as if gauging your reaction.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Those darker spots on his "crown"? Those are all extra eyes, true to his nature as a biblical angel.
  • Eye Scream: Thought the bloodshot eyes were bad enough? Starecrown's up pose has his eyes pop out of his socket.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: An almost literal inversion, as he's actually quite shy whose tricked by Fred, and leaves on good terms. He looks quite creepy, moreso when he is in his Edgecrown form in Body Inversion, and his purple skin and horn covered crown brings to mind the designs for the dearest family, who are demons.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Fred the frog for the majority of VS Starecrown. Fred also mentions a thus unseen Adel, implied to be manipulated to teleport Boyfriend to various places to rap battle people.
  • Jump Scare: The first note he ever hits in the mod is a loud shriek, accompanied by a display of his absurd amounts of teeth.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Applies to both Fred the Frog and Starecrown, the latter especially.
  • Nightmare Face: Starecrown's sprites have all this in common, though directional inputs give you the worst of it, with his mouth and eyes contorting in various ways whenever he sings.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Played with. Any possibility of harming Boyfriend is born more of manipulation by his peers, and he's generally quite kind and even a bit of a fanboy... but this does not make his attempt to perform Body Inversion on Boyfriend any less dangerous.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Starecrown spends roughly two straight minutes doing nothing but delivering mostly-unbroken eye contact with Boyfriend throughout the entirety of STARE. It's about as unsettling as when he finally does start doing things.
  • No Social Skills: Starecrown is stated to be lonely, isolated due a combination of the fact that people are generally unaware of his presence or just scared shitless at the sight of him. He's even too scared to visit Mommy Mearest and Daddy Dearest because of this trope.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Noticeably, Girlfriend shakes in fear at the sight of Starecrown's humanoid angel form near the end of Body Inversion, not even the more terrifying looking Edgecrown from before it got such a reaction. Considering she's a demon, seeing an angel would give her a fright.
      • Additionally, both of them get nervous near the end of Staredown, though they regain their composure at the start of Body Inversion.
    • Likewise, Boyfriend's performance throughout the mod is specifically charted to feel as if he's unsettled by Starecrown. Double-notes are him nearly tripping over himself to keep pace despite being freaked out, and throughout STARE he takes brief pauses as if expecting Starecrown to join in.
  • Our Angels Are Different: The titular Starecrown, and likely the briefly mentioned Adel, are angels. You'd be hard pressed to know Starecrown is one just by looking at him.
  • Slasher Smile: Starecrown's face is stuck in a perpetual, tight-lipped smile, as if he's barely able to contain his joy at... any number of possible things running through his head. Fred has a much more apparent version of this trope.
  • Take That!: The downloadable Corrupted week is one to Friday Night Funkin': Corruption, or rather the low quality recursive fan mods made by fans. It features a lazily re-colored "corrupted" Starecrown with pose animations that's just the same sprite but stretched either horizontally or vertically for the appropriate note, the song included is just a worse version of "Stare" with excessive static noise in the background, and notes are randomly placed with no rhyme or reason. Also, Starecrown states that the Corruption is an STD he got from Monster.
  • The Watcher: His status as an angel, him stated to be constantly watching, and his dialogue, suggest this is his role.
  • Younger Than They Look: Starecrown is stated as just having hit 3 years of existence.
