Entrance to Devil's Marsh, which functions as the titular Vault's outskirts.

Vault 1080 is a mod made by NVIDIA in September 2016 for Fallout 4, in order to show off their Godrays technology and advertise their video cards.

Despite being a glorified commercial, the mod actually has an interesting story that takes the player to a brand new vault with its own twisted history. Vault 1080 does take a few liberties here and there for the sake of exposition, but is mostly friendly with established Fallout lore.

This Game Mod Provides examples of:

  • Apocalyptic Log: The main quest is kicked off when the player finds one of these written by a doctor named Rachel Morgan which leads them to the Church of the Valley and, eventually, Vault 1080. Once, inside, you'll find logs by Overseer Harrison and a few other residents.
  • As the Good Book Says...: Since the Vault you are exploring is populated entirely by the disciples of The Church of the Valley, it's no surprise that you'll see famous verses like "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death" in some of the logs.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Invoked in the log of Henrietta Miller, an old woman who prayed for the Lord to deliver her from a nursing home, which technically happened when she got selected for Vault 1080. Played with is that even though she acknowledges in her log that wasn't what she expected, she's still relieved not to be in a nursing home. Though, she likely had second thoughts when ghoulification set in.
  • Black Comedy: NVIDIA clearly had fun posing some of the skeletons the player can find, such as a guy in a backwards baseball cap leaning over a bucket while sitting next to several dozen beer bottles.
  • Blackout Basement: Every part of the mod starting from The Church of the Valley (the building whose basement leads directly to the vault) is particularly dark, often being practically pitch-black without your flashlight. Of course, not using a flashlight is exactly what provides a contrast for the few sources of NVIDIA-enhanced ambient lightning.
  • Body Horror: By the time the player finally finds Overseer Harrison, he's become a Bloated Glowing One who's somehow managed to retain his mind and keep from going feral.
  • Death of a Child: Several infants were killed because they lacked the gene that would allow them to become a ghoul.
  • Driven to Suicide: Several skeletons found in Vault 1080 are implied to be the remains of people who committed suicide. These were likely either people who were unable to become ghouls and chose a quicker death over slowly succumbing to radiation poisoning or people who just didn't want to spend the rest of their life trapped in a vault.
  • Fungus Humongous: Large versions of glowing fungus help add to the creepy atmosphere.
  • Scenery Porn: The whole reason this mod exists in the first place is for NVIDIA to show off their Godrays technology. Expect to see lots of atmospheric locations with creepy shadows and beams of light throughout.
  • Swamps Are Evil: The whole thing takes place in a swampy area called Devil's Marsh, which is full of Mirelurks. To say nothing of what the player finds once they go deeper into the actual vault.
