Undercurrent is a short first-person indie horror game by dave-ja as part of the Haunted PS1's Summer of Shivers Jam. You play as an unnamed character who is rowing on their boat when a bad storm gets them stranded on an island. They decide to go in the lighthouse for shelter, only to stumble upon some sinister experiments by the titular Undercurrent Incorported, and winds up a target of Mr. Moray, Head of Development who wants to make them his next test subject.

This game contains examples of:

  • Antagonist Title: Undercurrent is the name of the Evil, Inc. responsible for horrible experiments on innocent people, and the protagonist stumbles upon their operations.
  • Bad Boss: Mr. Moray was known for his bad temper, and workers who earned his ire were known to mysteriously vanish, likely becoming his test subjects for his experiments. Then he took the injection himself and slaughtered his whole staff, putting them in body bags stashed around one room.
Don't get on Mr. Moray's bad side. Samuel in IT was getting chewed out by him the other day. I haven't seen him since. Maybe he's working in the lab? Seems unlikely...
  • Big Bad: Mr. Moray. Head of Development at Undercurrent Incorporated, wants to make the protagonist his next test subject.
  • Evil, Inc.: Undercurrent Incorporated, a company that experiments on people underneath the sea.
  • Mad Scientist:
    • Mr. Moray, the Big Bad, is the Head of Development who experimented on people with The Virus to turn them into zombie-like entities. He even went as far as to inject himself'' with the serum.
FOUND YOU! COME JOIN ME, MY LITTLE TEST SUBJECT!
    • Dr. Krill, Lead Technician, was Moray's colleague who helped him out with the experiments.
  • Professor Guinea Pig: Mr. Moray injected himself with the virus/serum at one point, turning himself into a zombie-like creature for the regeneration powers it came with.
Moray's gone mad. He's been testing on himself, citing regenerative properties. We still don't know what this stuff does, he's going to hurt himself, or worse...
  • Story Breadcrumbs: You find some notes, audio tapes, and videos showing what went on at Undercurrent Inc before you showed up there.
  • Super-Strength: The serum that the scientists of Undercurrent Incorporated were working on gives people this. Moray, after having taken it, is capable of forcibly opening a giant steel door with his bare hands.
  • Threatening Shark: According to one note, a shark somehow got into the tunnels of the Elaborate Underground Base at some point. Not that you ever encounter it.
The glass keeps creaking. It's freaking me out. And to top it all off, there's a shark swimming around the tunnels. I didn't sign up for this! ...I'm going to ask for a transfer... damn sharks...
  • Underwater Base: The game primarily takes place in a massive underwater laboratory owned by Undercurrent Incorporated.
