Ultra Vortek is a fighting game that was released for the Atari Jaguar in 1995. It was the second fighting game after Kasumi Ninja that tried to copy Mortal Kombat on the system.

Ultra Vortek provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Adjustable Censorship: The game allows the option to turn blood on or off.
  • Alien Blood: Some of the characters have green blood, including Buzzsaw, Skullcrusher, Grok, and Mercury.
  • Finishing Move: Like Mortal Kombat, the game has these, including stage fatalities, but also a "poopality" that turns the opponent into, well, poop.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: One of Skullcrusher's finishing moves.
  • Mirror Match: You can choose the same opponent as your playable character, in which the mirror will get a darker palette swap.
  • Off with His Head!: Several characters can decapitate their opponent's head and launch it into the screen with their finishing moves, including Dreadloc, Lucius, and Buzzsaw.
  • Palette Swap: The shadows are shadow-colored versions of all the playable characters, and Carbon is a black version of Grok. It is possible to turn your fighter into a Shadow with a code, but the true fighter's name remains the same on the life bar.
  • Playing with Fire: Volcana has fire-based powers, and the Guardian breathes fire.
  • Rock Monster: Grok is a rock monster and is able to curl up into a rolling boulder as an attack and for his Avalanche finisher.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Out of a roster of seven main fighters, Volcana is the sole female among them.
  • Squashed Flat: One of Grok's options for a finisher, Avalanche, is to turn into a giant boulder and squash the enemy into a pulp.
  • Toilet Humor: One of the game's finishers shared amongst most of the fighters is the "Poopality" which suddenly transforms your opponent into a pile of steaming feces. To add insult to injury, the victor's celebration is filled with fart sounds of varying pitches.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Both of the MeatHackers, Lucius and Dreadloc, fight with their full upper bodies exposed to the elements.
