Too Many Softcaps is an Idle Game made in The Modding Tree by softcapped and released in 2021. As the name implies, it has a lot of softcaps, with many upgrades trying to weaken their effects, while others are meant to improve production as usual. There is a fair amount of inflation later on.

The game is playable here.

This game provides examples of:

  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Each of the layers has its own color.
    • Prestige: Green
    • Power: Blue
    • Softcap power: Yellow
  • Diminishing Returns for Balance: The whole game relies on softcaps, with five different formulas getting a fractional power by the time you can make it to the end.
  • Early Game Hell: Most of the early game is just pushing the prestige points button over and over, since the softcaps would make it impossible to actually make much progress while idling and this was before games in the engine would just let you hold the button to reset. Once you get to the third prestige power milestone, you can actually idle and come back once in a while to reset for power, with the rest of the game going far smoother.
  • Endless Game: Unlike most games in the engine, there is no defined endgame, but you're guaranteed to hit a point where the softcaps prevent any further progress.
  • Export Save: You can push a button to export the 2KB+ savefile and another to import it, though the game's too short for it to be that useful.
  • Ludicrous Precision: Thanks to softcap power's effect, the game notes the second softcap's power with a truly excessive sixteen digits after the decimal point.
  • Reset Milestones: The prestige power layer has four milestones that unlock a new prestige upgrade, start resets with all prestige upgrades, gain a percentage of prestige points per second based on milestones, and having automatic resets for prestige power that affect nothing, while the softcap power layer has one milestone that squares the Extra prestige points upgrade.
  • One-Letter Name: All upgrades in the prestige power layer have one-letter names: A, B, C, D, E, F.
