Tom And Jerry: The Ultimate Game Of Cat And Mouse! (also known as Tom and Jerry (and Tuffy) or just as Tom and Jerry, like the cartoon that inspired the game) is a Video Game released by Hi Tech Expressions for Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, and for MS-DOS in 1993. The premise of the game is simple: Tom "mouse-napped" Tuffy, Jerry's nephew, and locked him in a trunk in the attic, and now Jerry must go through all the parts of the house to get to him.

Tropes:

  • Collision Damage: Played straight with most enemies, but some of them, like the moths in the level 1-1, can't kill Jerry directly, and if they touch him, he will just get pushed.
  • Distressed Dude: Tuffy is this in this video game by virtue of being kidnapped by Tom, Jerry’s job is to rescue him.
  • Down the Drain: Level 1-2. It manages to avert the Absurdly Spacious Sewer trope, because the pipes are just large enough for Jerry, a mouse, to go through them.
  • Everything Is Trying to Kill You: You can be killed by chattering teeth, water, spiders, etc.
  • Excuse Plot: Tuffy was "mouse-napped" and now Jerry must go through some platform levels to save him from Tom.
  • Falling Damage: Jerry loses one heart if he falls from a high enough height.
  • Final Boss: The final obstacle you face is Tom himself.
  • Hearts Are Health: The player starts with three, and Jerry loses one every time he's hit. Hearts can be recovered if Jerry catches a big piece of cheese.
  • Invincible Minor Minion: Some enemies are unkillable, but if they're hit enough times, they can be stopped just for long enough for Jerry to get past them.
  • Invincibility Power-Up: Some levels contain drinks that can provide Jerry with temporary invincibility.
  • Kaizo Trap: May come combined with Last Ditch Move. In the boss levels, Jerry can still die after defeating Tom. For example, in level 1-3, Jerry can still drown in the water if he falls, or can still be hit by one of Tom's projectiles.
  • Recurring Boss: The titular Tom is fought several times throughout the game.
  • Respawning Enemies: Of the variety that respawns if Jerry gets out of the area where they were and then goes back.
  • Stock Beehive: Seen in level 2-3, and Jerry needs the bees to defeat Tom.
  • Winged Soul Flies Off at Death: When the player loses a life, Jerry's spirit flies off, complete with angel wings.
