The King of Fighters Survival City is a free-to-play, strategy game for iOS and Android, developed by South Korean gaming company Joycity and licensed by SNK. The game pits the characters of The King of Fighters against a zombie invasion, and is also a city builder a la Rise of the Kingdoms and The Grand Mafia.

It was released worldwide on April 18, 2023. It is scheduled to shut down services on November 30, 2023, lasting for a grand total of 8 months.

Examples

  • Action Girl: Apart from the returning female fighters from KOF, this game introduces a bunch more.
  • Advertised Extra: The main premise is supposed to be about KOF characters defending your city from zombies. And while the early part of the game is stabilizing your city by getting rid of a zombie infestation, the zombies themselves pretty much disappear once you are done cleaning your city off them. Your main enemies are actually thugs and soldiers working for NESTS. You'll only fight zombies again by entering the Dark Lab.
  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • There's a picture of Blue Mary on the Mainbase, but she was not implemented in-game until June 20, 2023.
    • Goro Daimon's model is seen in a promotional screenshot, and he has yet to properly appear in the game.
    • There is promotional artwork of Orochi Iori, but so far no news of him being implemented.
  • Dolled-Up Installment: Take a look at some gameply of the now-defunct game Crossfire Warzone (also developed by Joycity), and you will immediately notice The King of Fighters Survival City is mostly just a reskin of that city builder.
  • Excuse Plot: Really, the tutorial is the only time you'll see any resemblance to plot and characters interacting with each other, and it only serves to give context about why you are playing a game about KOF characters fighting zombies. When you are done stabilizing your city, the story is never picked up again.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: The first fight with Krizalid is unwinnable. You get to defeat him in a rematch later on.
  • Match-Three Game: You can play a Puzzle Game in the Fighter Center, where you can get resources as rewards.
  • Money Grinding: Accumulating resources such as food and money involves gathering them from resources points in the overworld map by sending your KOF characters followed by some helpers.
  • Non-Player Character: Krizalid is the only returning character that cannot be recruited. Justified because, well, he works for NESTS, the game's antagonistic organization.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: There are no original tracks, as it only reuses music from The King of Fighters XIV.
  • Video Game Cruelty Punishment: If you attack other low-level players' cities, the amount of PVP points required will increase. If that does not prevent you from attacking them anyway, the game will ban you from using Territory Shields (preventing you from shielding from any possible retaliations), which stacks up to 1 hour. On top of that, you don't get to loot anything from their cities. In short, the game punishes you for attacking players who are far weaker than you.
