Video Game / The Animator (Slay the Spire)

Go To

The Animator is an ambitious anime-themed mod for Slay the Spire, adding an entirely new class with over 160 cards, as well as a super-hard bonus act. But unlike many mods of this type, instead of being based on a specific anime it's based on a whole bunch of them, including but not limited to:

You can find it here.

This mod contains examples of the following tropes:

  • The Cameo: There's a number of series that are only represented by one or two cards, such as Lelouch from Code Geass or Haruka from FLCL.
  • Fight Like a Card Player: It is a Slay the Spire mod, after all.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Averted. While the cards represent anime characters, you're not interacting with them in any way, and Act 5 isn't based on anime at all.
  • Mythology Gag: Most cards tend to be one of these, such as Alphonse Elric being replaced with Armored Alphonse after being exhausted.
  • No-Gear Level: What makes Act 5 so challenging; you need to give up all of your relics to enter.
  • Power Creep, Power Seep: Downplayed; characters like Gilgamesh, Ainz Ooal Gown and Saitama might not be as ungodly powerful as they are in their home series, but they're more often than not some of the best cards you can get.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Mumen Rider is an amazing example of this. He does very little damage and gets exhausted immediately, but he costs 0 energy to play, and has a random chance each turn to return to your hand even if he's been exhausted.
