Daydreams were never this wild.

A 1989 Platform Game loosely based on the world of Tom Sawyer, published by Seta for the NES.

The game begins with Tom dozing off and daydreaming while in class. In his dream he must rescue Becky Thatcher from Injun Joe, and that's pretty much the gist of it. You control Tom Sawyer as he explores different areas and lands in his dream adventure, which takes him to weird and wacky locales, like a pirate ship, a forest, and a haunted house.

The game can be played with one or two players in an alternating mode where the second player takes control of Huckleberry Finn.

Not to be confused with Square's Japan-only Tom Sawyer RPG, also released on the NES.

This adventure contains examples of:

  • Anachronism Stew: In Level 5, Tom rides a cloud and battles a giant gun-mounted Zeppelin, which was not quite a thing in the mid-1840's (The earliest known airship was created in 1852, and airships weren't used for war until decades later), Even if it is a dream.
  • Animals Not to Scale: Tom battles a giant octopus at the end of the first level, a giant alligator at the end of the second level, and a giant gorilla at the end of the third.
  • Dream Land: The entire game takes place within Tom's dream.
  • Excuse Plot: Tom Sawyer daydreams while at school, sending him on an adventure through a dream land where Injun Joe has kidnapped Becky Thatcher.
  • Gangplank Galleon: The first level takes place on a ship. The player battles pirates with a giant lazy octopus waiting for him at the very end.
  • Killer Gorilla: The boss of Level 3.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Especially an inexplicably giant one that sends whirlpools at you.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Here we have a video game adaptation based on a novel over a century earlier. 113 years in fact.
  • Roaring Rapids: The second level (Down The River) is an overhead autoscroller that takes Tom up the river. He can steer his raft and can jump over obstacles.
  • Stock Ness Monster: Injun Joe rides one named Mishie during the Final Boss battle.
