Terrifying 911 is an unlicensed Game Boy Color game developed and published by Hitek (or Li Cheng for the latter, depending on release). It's a port of the original Metal Slug. The main changes include using an FMV of the 9/11 attack as the intro, cutscenes featuring George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden, and the levels supposedly taking place in Afghanistan.

This game provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Geography: Since the game takes place in Afghanistan but the maps are ripped straight from Metal Slug, there are many inaccuracies. The most blatant is the presence of water in the background of some levels, despite Afghanistan being a landlocked country in South Asia.
  • Copy Protection: The original game ROM by Hitek does not work in most GBA emulators due to copy protection. The Li Cheng does work.
  • Patriotic Fervor: The back of the box motivates the player to help Americans defeat Bin Laden and to show their patriotism and brave heart.
  • Stock Footage: The intro uses highly compressed FMV footage of the 9/11 Twin Towers collapse.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: The intro that shows the 9/11 attack uses the anthem of the Israeli Peace Movement as its background music.
