A 1987 game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Star Wars is very loosely based on the classic film A New Hope. It was only released in Japan.

Published and developed by Namco, Luke must start his adventure from Tatooine, rescue his allies and take on the evil Galactic Empire.

This game contains examples of:

  • Actually a Doombot: Darth Vader will sometimes transform into a creature appropriate with the world. Such as for example, him turning into a scorpion on Tatooine.
  • Adapted Out: The Big Bad of A New Hope, Grand Moff Tarkin, is nowhere to be found.
  • Beam Sword: By spending enough Force Power, you can shoot beams from your Lightsaber.
  • Frigid Water Is Harmless: Averted, as frigid water in the ice world is treated as a Bottomless Pit if Luke falls into it.
  • Game-Over Man: Darth Vader appears on the Game Over screen, complete with his breathing sound effect.
  • Guide Dang It!: You wouldn't know if you played it without hints, but to get past a guard in the ice world, you have to have C-3PO talk to him.
  • The Maze: The Death Star is an intricate maze that you will need to memorize because it gets very confusing.
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: Getting hit once will cost you a life. Even flying the Millennium Falcon or X-Wing will mean a single bullet will destroy your ship.
  • Ratchet Scrolling: You can't backtrack after scrolling past an area. This becomes very problematic in the mountain level and Yavin IV because what was a platform could get scrolled off the screen, leading to a Bottomless Pit.
  • Under the Sea: The water world is home to dangerous sea creatures. Luke must swim through the waters to rescue C-3PO.
