Look down....

Richie's Plank Experience is a Virtual Reality demo and game produced by Toast VR and released on September 19, 2016. It is available for Oculus Quest, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows.

It's largely used as a demo to show the power of VR to people. At its most basic, you start off on a street next to an elevator. You go up the elevator to a great height, and have the opportunity to walk out on a plank. In normal video games this is nothing. In virtual reality, even well-seasoned gamers jump a little at first.

It's a very popular Reaction Video topic on YouTube watching people freaking out about heights on a level floor.

There is more to the game than that. There is a level which lets you play one of three minigames as you fly around the city using a handheld thruster, and also a free roam feature.

Richie's Plank Experience contains examples of:

  • Heroic Fire Rescue: You can fly around putting out fires
  • Monster Clown: Part of the nightmare level
  • Rule of Scary: Standing over a great height is pretty scary. If you want more terror, open up the panel on the elevator and type 6-6-6.
  • Walk the Plank: The "main quest".
  • Wide-Open Sandbox: You are not stuck just using the elevator and falling off - can free roam and explore the city using the "Hero" options.
