The story takes place in a world, which was attacked by armies of monsters, known as "Mort". As they destroy realm after realm, the only hope that the world has is the Ashen Hawk Brigade - a small band of outcasts, that was once known as the Faithless Reapers.
The game was announced in December 2022 by Binary Haze Interactive, who had previously published ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights. Scenario and level design is handled by Masayuki Horikawa, who worked on multiple Fire Emblem games in the past.

Redemption Reapers provides examples of the following tropes:
- Action Girl: Among the mostly-male Ashen Hawk Brigade, Sarah and Karren stand out as prominent female fighters. Sarah in particular fights with dual daggers, and trailers show her easily taking on notably larger Mort.
- Bloodier and Gorier: Compared to Fire Emblem games. Fire Emblem in general uses blood sparingly, not showing it during gameplay, and leaving gorier sequences off-screen. Here, the gameplay trailer shows enemies exploding into showers of blood with each hit, in cutscenes and gameplay alike.
- Breakable Weapons: One of the Fire Emblem holdovers is weapon durability. As seen in the gameplay trailer, weapons have finite uses.
- Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: Urs, the bald, one-eyed, towering ogre of a man, is notably the only initially-revealed character who uses axes. His bio, however, notices that he cares greatly about his allies, and tightens up the group when it matters.
- Combination Attack: The gameplay trailer shows that if a character attacks the enemy while there are allies nearby, the player can order them to join in. Notably, the follow-up is performed before enemy's counterattack takes place, potentially saving a party member from taking damage.
- Darker and Edgier: The game's scenario is written by Masayuki Horikawa, who also wrote scenarios for several Fire Emblem and Advance Wars games. Among his works, the only one that comes close in terms of dark atmosphere is Thracia 776.
- Former Regime Personnel: Glenn's bio says that before becoming a mercenary, he was a Knight Commander in an unspecified, but now-destroyed country.
- Friendly Sniper: Karren, one of the group's archers, is described on the official site to be easy to get along with.
- Red Baron: As mentioned in his bio, Levante is a general to a now-destroyed kingdom, who is known as the "Tiger of Caledaecia".
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Mort, as seen in their portraits, have glowing red eyes, as befits a horde of monsters, that attacks humans for no discernible reason.
- The Remnant: As shown in his character trailer, Levante leads the sole remaining stronghold of the Kingdom of Caledaecia, which was destroyed by the Mort.
- Tagalong Kid: Naki is a boy whose village, as written in his bio, was destroyed by the Mort, so he decided to follow the Ashen Hawks in hopes to help them.
