Potato Thriller is a horror video game, made by Samer Khatib and released in 2016.

A serial killer known as the "Potato Man" is on the loose. As his name implies, he looks like a potato, who deep-fries his victims. You play as a bounty hunter named Quindalin and his robot son of a partner, Dexter, in their attempt to catch him before he claims another victim.

The game is known for its purposely bizarre execution, with strange characters, dialogue, and setpieces.

It is available on Steam.

Tropes:

  • Anthropomorphic Food: The eponymous "Potato Man" is a walking potato. There are other living fruits as well, including other potatos, and Lana the Lemon.
  • Brown Note: The yell of the Nosey Nose Monsters will instantly kill you by causing your kidneys and organs to explode.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • The Potato Man kills his victims by deep-frying them in oil.
    • The cry of the Nosey Nose Monsters causes your kidneys and other organs to explode, killing you.
  • Fission Mailed: Twice, the game makes you think you died (at the beginning, and at the end when you fight the Potato Man, only to reveal it was just a trick/illusion.
  • Gasshole: Lana's husband, the top-hat potato, farts a lot.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: At the end, Dexter deliberately kills himself by jumping into the frying oil after his mind is taken over by Source Nose.
  • Mind Screw: The whole game, basically, but the first half of the game in particular, with its confusing level repeats and idiosyncratic nature. This turns out to have a point, as it's Dexter getting hacked.
  • Serial Killer: The Potato Man.
  • Stylistic Suck: The game's dialogue is deliberately poorly written and executed (in fact, many of them use text-to-speech programs), and its graphics leave a bit to be desired.
  • Surreal Humor: The game's main focus is on its bizarre premise and execution.
  • Synthetic Voice Actor: Many of the characters are voiced by a text-to-speech program.
  • Uncomfortable Elevator Moment: During the elevator sequences in Potato Castle, the characters have various fourth-wall breaking conversations, while Lana's husband (the top-hat potato) farts.
