Pokemon Wilds is a Pokémon fangame by SheerSt in Java first released in 2020. It features a potentially massive procedurally generated world to explore, graphics inspired by Pokémon Gold and Silver, and plenty of other features like rideable Pokémon or digging through cracked ground.


This game provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Regigias is the definition of Awesome, but Impractical within the actual games due to its crippling Slow Start ability. Since this game is based off of the Generation II games (and thus lack abilities altogether), it's able to use its monstrous 160 Attack from the get go.
  • Anti-Frustration Feature: Using the Cut field move on any structure you put up will destroy it and return all materials used in its construction, just in case you happen to build the wrong thing or don't like where it's placed.
  • Chest Monster: Berry trees may turn out to be aggressive Sudowoodo.
  • Darkness Equals Death: Ghost Pokémon may spawn and chase you down if you don't have a light source at night. Entering a lit area (or simply bringing out a Pokémon with the Flash ability) will cause them to leave you alone.
  • Debug Room: Input the command "pokemon-wilds.exe dev" to get some high-level Pokémon, a secret key, and 99 Master Balls.
  • Huge Rider, Tiny Mount: Averted. While you can ride on multiple different types of Pokémon, it's limited to ones that are plausibly large enough to actually carry you.
  • Interface Screw: Triggering an Unown encounter will replace all in-game text with Unown speech.
  • An Interior Designer Is You: The Build field move primarily exists for this purpose allowing players to freely construct and decorate both pens for your Pokémon and buildings.
  • In-Universe Game Clock: The game switches between day and night every few minutes. At day, everything is normal. At night, ghosts may show up and the atmosphere is made scarier through creepy music that carries over during battles and darker effects.
  • Item Crafting: Players can use campfires and kilns to craft new Pokéballs and other useful tools with the materials they gather. Pokemon with the Build field move can also make larger structures up to and including entire buildings.
  • Level Scaling: Tall-grass encounters have their levels near the average level of Pokémon in your party, though it doesn't go above 50 or apply to dungeons.
  • Loads and Loads of Loading: Generating an XXL world can take more than two minutes.
  • Retraux: The game uses a Gen II artstyle while also bringing in Pokémon and mechanics from later generations.
  • Starter Mon: You always have some kind of weak low-level mon in your team to begin with, like Machop or Plusle.
  • Status Buff: If you provoke a wild Pokémon found on the overworld into attacking you (whether by stealing their eggs or simply interacting with them when they're agitated), they'll start off the battle with an attack boost.
  • Utility Party Member: Pokémon have different field moves that is mostly determined by their type. These effects can range from harvesting materials, making traversal easier, or interacting with the environment in some unique way. Certain abilities can also only be used (or used to their fullest) if the Pokémon has fully evolved.
