The synopsis on each game's title screen

Playing with Fire is an Adobe Flash series of Bomberman-style games released throughout the 2000s by Gamearcade. You play as a boy who puts dynamite in an attempt to kill his opponents while making sure it doesn't happen to him. There are one and two player modes selectable. Despite the name, this game doesn't have the Playing with Fire trope.

This game provides examples of:

  • Color-Coded Multiplayer: Player 1 is blue, player 2 is red, the remaining opponents controlled by the computer are purple and green.
  • Excuse Plot: Each installment only has the same three-line synopsis on the title screen as the plot.
  • Interface Screw: Picking up the lightbulb turns the screen black (with the exception of half of the topmost tile).
  • Mission-Pack Sequel: Each subsequent installment runs on the same engine and has nearly identical graphics and gameplay. The main changes include some game modes and features.
  • Palette Swap: All four players look the same except for their color.
  • Speed Shoes: A character's movement speed increases when they pick up the shoes icon.
  • Winged Soul Flies Off at Death: Dead players fly away as angels.
