A Mega Man (Classic) fan game by Nathaniel Hoover.

In the year 20XX, Proto Man returns to Dr. Cossack's fortress from his latest mission, where Kalinka asks him how his adventure went. Proto Man complains about all the Sniper Joes he saw, and how boring his encounters with them are getting. Kalinka thinks the Sniper Joes have much more potential, however their conversation is interrupted when Proto Man's Proto Shield is stolen by a Sniper Joe who runs away. Kalinka warns Proto Man to be careful, as this new Joe managed to get past lab security. Proto Man grabs some Weapon chips and sets off on a mission to retrieve his shield, which leads him to a fortress full of Sniper Joes.

Oh Joes! does things a little differently from the usual Mega Man Classic experiences. You don't go around defeating bosses and gaining new weapons. The game is more of a puzzle platformer/proof of concept meant to show the creative ways Sniper Joes can be used when placing enemies and designing levels. Every enemy in the game is a past variation of Sniper Joe from previous Mega Man titles, used and placed in creative and strategic ways. There are multiple playable characters, and different weapons to use from the start.

You can give the game a spin here.

This Game contains examples of:

  • Armor-Piercing Attack: The Laser Trident is one of your starter weapons, which pierces through Sniper Joe shields.
  • Author Tract: The game is a critique of Mega Man Classic games and the repetitive ways Sniper Joes are used.
  • Big Bad: The Sniper Joe Thief who stole Proto Man's shield.
  • Competitive Balance:
    • Proto Man: Jack of All Stats who starts with the Laser Trident, Skull Barrier, and Proto Coil.
    • Break Man: Makes Proto Man a Mighty Glacier who can only fire two shots at once, takes less damage and has the Yamato Spear and Item-2.
    • Kalinka: Glass Cannon with a bazooka with the Needle Cannon, and access to Tango and the Carry platform.
  • Game-Over Man: The Sniper Thief stands triumphantly with the other Joes when you lose all your lives.
  • Glass Cannon: Kalinka's bazooka is the most powerful base attack in the game, but she takes significantly more damage than Proto/Break Man.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Proto Man complaining about the repetiton of the Sniper Joes, reflects that of the author and the entire point of the game.
  • Little Miss Badass: Kalinka, with a freaking bazooka.
  • Have a Nice Death: The Game Over screen gives you a mocking little message in the same vein of Sierra's old adventure games. There are 72 different variations.
  • Secret Character: Collecting all the JOES letters unlocks a playable Kalinka.
  • Take That!: To various canon Mega Man games and fangames for their repetitive ways of using Sniper Joes.
  • The Usual Adversaries: Lampshaded by Proto Man who has come to view the Sniper Joes as less of a worthy challenge and more boring and stale due to using the same strategies (Blocking long hallways, or guarding tops of ladders). The entire game is a lampshade on repetitive Sniper Joes.
