Mecha Rumble!

It is five years after establishment of the World Federation, yet strife and Civil War are still on the rise.
To maintain public order, a powered, bipedal, armed robot, or "METAL HEAD", was created by the International Special Armed Forces, part of the Federation Police.
METAL HEAD quickly proved it's efficiency, which caused the overt militarization of the countries of the Federation.

Metal Head is a 1995 First-Person Shooter / Mecha Game developed and published by Sega for the Sega 32X.

Set in a highly-advanced future filled with giant robots, mecha of all sizes forms the backbone of the police and military. You're an ace pilot operating a METAL HEAD - a standard robotic unit used by the police, when a high-tech terrorist syndicate filled with state-of-the-art equipment and machines launches an attack. After a successful ambush which sees the terrorists taking over the city, you arrive as part of the backup, where it's your Metal Head against legions of enemy mecha of assorted sizes.

METAL HEAD Troopers, the terrorists are all yours! Demolish them and regain the capital!

  • Arm Cannon: Your mecha have a BFG installed in it's arm as a default weapon for blowing up enemy tech, and it can be upgraded to fire rockets or blast away at full auto.
  • Construction Vehicle Rampage: One stage have terrorists using heavy construction vehicles equipped with wrecking balls to rough you up.
  • Covers Always Lie: An unintentional example, but some covers and promotional flyers boasts that the game is made for 1 or 2 players, when in actuality it's a single-player game. Sega themselves later confirms that was a typographical error on their part.
  • Critical Annoyance: If your mecha is down to it's last to health bars, a siren will go off in the background and remain so until you picked up a repair kit or complete the level (of course, finishing a stage with a badly-damaged mecha will grant you a new one in pristine condition by the next level).
  • Cut and Paste Environments: Every single stage uses the same streets, buildings, fences, skies, literally everything, with some alterations to disguise the recycled assets. The game did try to make some changes in the third mission, reusing the assets while setting the stage at night.
  • Elaborate Underground Base: The terrorists have one which is where they construct and launch their robots from; in the second-to-last stage you infiltrate the underground area to take them down for good.
  • Enemy-Detecting Radar: You have one on the upper-right corner that displays an aerial map of the city as well - justified since you're piloting a robot with radar equipped.
  • Fragile Speedster: Terrorist trucks are the fastest enemies around, and tends to drive circles around you while a mook on it's back opens fire. However they blow up in just one hit.
  • Gatling Good: The Chain Gun power-up gives your mech an automatic gatling turret with unlimited rounds. And then there's the upgraded variant in the las tstage, the Mega Chain Gun.
  • Grenade Launcher: One that the game calls "Grenade Cannon", but it otherwise functions as one. It fires an exploding projectile that blows apart most enemies with one hit.
  • Heroic Mime: Your lieutenant, mechanic, and support team will converse with you either to provide intel, deliver new objectives, or information on upgrades you can apply on your robot. Unfortunately, you don't have any lines for answering.
  • A Mech by Any Other Name: The titular "METAL HEAD" refers to the giant robot you're piloting. Note that words like "robots" or "mecha" isn't uttered at any point of the game.
  • Night-Vision Goggles: The third stage is set at night, and in one area the street lights are out. But your mecha have a built-in night vision mode which activates instantly.
  • Spider Tank: A red mecha on spider-legs, one of the less common machines used by the terrorists.
  • Tank Goodness: One of the bosses of the first stage is a tank which can take far more damage than regular mecha or enemy vehicles.
  • Terrorists Without a Cause: The unnamed, high-tech terrorist organization have their own fleet of robots, and they're using them to terrorize the city because... ?
  • Weak Turret Gun: Some stages have dinky, stationary turrets painted blue, which could be threatening to human targets. However you're piloting a mecha, and your cannons quickly make quick work of them.
