Do you follow her into the theater...?

Macabre Mysteries: Curse of the Nightingale is a hidden object game developed by Blue Tea Games and published by Big Fish Games in 2011.

You play as the grandchild of former Nightingale Theater owner, Mr. Wilson, who pays a visit to the theater that was abandoned forty years ago after a fire broke out and destroyed part of the building.

Upon catching sight of a ghostly ballerina, you must get to the bottom of what caused the downfall of the theater - all the while trying to stay alive, as there is someone who doesn't want the truth to be known.

Curse of the Nightingale is haunted by these tropes:

  • Animal Motifs: Swans - white and black, respectively - for Rose and Abigail.
    • Peacock feathers are also seen on Mayor Linden/Abigail, possibly signifying her vanity.
  • Destination Defenestration: Andreas subjects Abigail to this when he realizes that she was the cause behind Rose's death and all the torment he had to live with for decades.
  • Dismantled Macguffin: You have to put together items in scenes to continue through the theater.
  • The Dog Bites Back: When the protagonist shows Andreas visions of the past that reveals to him the truth behind the tragedy, he realizes the truth and turns on Abigail.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Abigail hated that Mr. Wilson chose to make Rose the star of his theater to the point where she poisoned her rival.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Andreas was known to have a mean temper but a gentle soul as well. This, sadly, made him an easy target for Abigail to manipulate and use to cover her tracks.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Abigail used Andreas to get back at Mr. Wilson for supposedly placing Rose as the main star and has since been using him to keep the truth about the theater disaster from being discovered.
  • Orphaned Series: No other game was made after Curse of the Nightingale and has since been discontinued.
  • Poison Is Evil: The method Abigail used to get rid of Rose.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Rose and Abigail used to be very close friends, performing together.
