LUNA is an Explorer Horror game in RPG Maker. You play as Luna, a girl who returns home one day to find her parents absent from the house, and a letter explaining that she needs to pick up some plates. She does so, washes her hands, and goes to bed.

Then she wakes up in the middle of the night to find that someone is inside the house. A dark and spooky ghost girl attacks her and forces her to play a twisted game of hide-and-seek, and will kill her if she loses. Can Luna escape and find her way back to her family? And who is the ghost girl, and what connection does she have to Luna?

Examples:

  • Big Bad: The ghost girl traps Luna in a strange dark version of her home and plays a twisted hide-and-seek game with her with death as the penalty. Until it turns out that Luna herself is the real villain who trapped the ghost girl, her little sister Lucy, in a magic book and erased her from existence because she was getting more love from their parents.
  • Deadly Book: While not deadly to the reader, Luna's book is capable of imprisoning people inside it and wiping them from existence.
  • Downer Ending: The normal ending. Luna successfully escapes the dark world and reunites with her parents, leaving the ghost girl trapped forever. Except that the ghost girl, Lucy, is Luna's little sister who Luna sealed inside the book, and who's existence she erased, so she could get all the love and attention from her parents instead, and now she's gotten away with it.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • There appear to be three bedrooms in the house, yet the only people living there are Luna and her parents, who would presumably share a bedroom. Because that bedroom belongs to the Ret Goned Lucy.
    • If you examine the bookcase in the extra bedroom, you can find a book that Luna claims is her favorite. It's the magic book that poor Lucy is trapped inside.
  • Gainax Ending: The secret ending is a very brief one that lends itself heavily to player interpretation. It is implied that the game exists in a "Groundhog Day" Loop. Luna meets Lucy in their secret place accessed in Lucy's room and shows Lucy the drawing she made of her. Lucy vanishes, and Luna, with a blank expression on her face, vanishes soon after, with the title screen showing the book both were trapped in now gone. Whether this means both of them escaped the book, or both of them were wiped from existence, or whether Luna felt remorse for causing the whole mess, is unclear.
  • Tomato Surprise: The story is that the titular Luna has been trapped in a strange alternate version of her home where she is pursued by a ghost girl who knows her and wants to kill her for some reason, and so she has to escape. But when the backstory is revealed, it changes the entire meaning of the story. Lucy, the ghost girl, is Luna's little sister who Luna erased from existence out of jealousy because she was The Unfavorite child, and sealed her inside a magic book. The seal weakened, allowing Lucy to briefly escape, and now she wants to drag Luna in with her as revenge. Both characters are fully aware of this, but the player only learns it gradually through flashbacks.
