The title from the first game in the series.
Kid Pix is an art and drawing program created by Craig Hickman in 1989 after seeing his creative child struggling with the use of Apple's art program MacPaint. The first version was released for Macintosh in 1989 as Shareware before it was purchased by Brøderbund Software and released to a general audience in 1990. Since the original release, the program received incremental updates before getting a sequel in 1994. Subsequent sequels were released in 2000, 2008 and 2018. Since 2004 the series has been developed and distributed by Software MacKiev.

Tropes found across the series:

  • Expansion Pack: Studio was this for the original, as it added the Stampinator, Moopies, and Slideshow Creator. 3X was an expansion of the third edition which increased canvas size and integration with applications from the Apple's iLife application suite. 3X would get an expansion pack in the form of Kid Pix Deluxe 3D which added features for video narration and export to YouTube.
  • Fun with Acronyms: The STEAM Edition has got new activities focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
  • Jump Scare: Some of the eraser tools in Studio can produce rather jarring noises and graphics. Same goes for a few of the Magic tools as well with the making of jarring noises and effects.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: Considering that the games are art games, there is no plot or story of any kind to speak of. Just make pictures or animations, watch film clips, or make slideshows.
  • Stock Footage: The AVI clips for the Wacky TV player in the "weird" folder are all clips from the British Pathé Archives.
  • Switch to Color: Kid Pix: Professional added the ability to make pictures in color which was made to tie in with the recent release of the Color Macintosh.
  • Updated Re Release: Kid Pix: Professional to the original, Kid Pix Studio Deluxe to the original Kid Pix Studio, and Kid Pix Deluxe 3X to the original Kids Pix Deluxe 3.
  • Wide-Open Sandbox: Can be expected for an art game.
