Kaiserredux: A Kaiserreich Expansion is an Alternate History Game Mod designed for Hearts of Iron IV, which had initially originated as a sub-mod to the renowned mod, Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg. The original objective of Kaiserredux was to unite multiple Kaiserreich sub-modifications into one package, but it has since evolved into an independent spin-off. Compare with Red Flood, another Hearts of Iron IV Game Mod which also puts an emphasis on darker, albeit more outlandish, scenarios.

This Game Mod provides examples of:

  • Darker and Edgier: While Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg was already darker than Hearts of Iron IV, this expansion adds even more atrocities that can be committed in-game, under such leaders like Ante Pavelić, Marcel Bucard, Julius Evola, Nikolay Yezhov, H.P. Lovecraft (provided that he does not have a change of heart), and a Ku Klux Klan led Constitutional American Republic as well as makes existing authoritarian leaders such as Edward VIII, Douglas MacArthur, Oswald Mosley, Leon Degrelle, Enver Hoxha, Roman Von Ungern-Sternberg and Hermann Goering even more villainous.
  • Denser and Wackier: One of Kaiserredux's goals is to add new and interesting paths to the mod, including Lovecraftian New England, Monarcho-Bolshevik Russia, Bulgaria reclaiming Old Great Bulgaria and Volga Bulgaria, and so on.
  • Divided States of America: In addition to the scenario from vanilla Kaiserreich (with the winner of the USA-CSA-AUS-CAR standoff not reunifying with the PSA, New England, Hawaii or Puerto Rico), it is also possible for an independent Black Belt to emerge after the Second American Civil War, or for the country to collapse altogether into warlordism.
  • Game Mod: Kaiserredux originated as a submod of Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg, itself a mod of Hearts of Iron IV, but has since become a standalone fork that no longer requires the base mod.
  • Mythology Gag: Kaiserredux adds back a few paths that were present in old versions of Kaiserreich before being removed either for being unrealistic or for balancing reasons, like Lawrence of Britannia, the AOG (as a playable nation), avoiding the American Civil War, a totalist Georgia featuring Beria and Stalin, the Legation Cities falling to the Triads, Roman von Ungern-Sternberg proclaiming himself Genghis Khan II, Italy being divided into only two instead of five pieces, and so on.
  • Second American Civil War: The Second Civil War, itself the central element of the USA's gameplay in Kaiserreich, was further expanded, with Texas and Alaska capable of seceding as well, or might not happen at all if the USA player follows the correct steps. There are also plans for a Third Civil War, in which the new American state fails to stabilise and descends into full-on warlordism.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Cthulhu Mythos references are all over the place in Lovecraftian New England focuses.
    • One of the focus icons in Beria's focus tree is based on Big Brother portrait (the second movie adaptation).
    • The AOG has a focus named "55 Days in Peking".
    • The Red Flood (a Double-Blind What-If Alternate History novel written by Ignas Šeinius, which originated from vanilla Kaiserreich, detailing a world where no one won the First World War, which was followed by Germany becoming socialist and Alexander Kolchak taking over Russia), differs from its original version by how Kolchak only has a loose grip in the areas far from Moscow, while surrealists take over France and turn it into an insane Avant-Garde dictatorship.
    • Our Finest Hour (another Double-Blind What-If novel which originated from Kaiserreich, detailing a world where Germany lost the First World War and subsequently adapted a neopagan ultranationalist ideology called Valkism), has received a sequel named Our Darkest Hour: Final Days of Europa. Germany won the Second World War, took over large swathes of Europe and dammed the Mediterranean, but is far from stable, Führer Adam Dressler having been forced to give Horst Wessel and the Thuleschutztruppen their own fiefdom in France after a failed coup. Japan dominates East Asia, the United States stands as the last bastion of democracy, England loses control over the rest of the UK, and Russia descends into warlordism. After Dressler's death, a four-way civil war erupts in Germany, while England falls into its own civil war between King Albert and a big tent coalition supporting his exiled brother Edward VIII. The Thuleschutztruppen state in France is secretly behind all world developments, and Russia is eventually unified by the so-called Regent Grigori Rasputin, who believes that Tsar Nicholas II is still alive but can only return once Russia is 'purified'. Sounds familiar?
    • One of New York City's focuses under the Mob is named "Livin' in a Gangster's Paradise".
"We’ve spent most of our lives in a gangster's paradise, and now it is time to spread that glory to the rest of New York. Through our labors and efforts, the Big Apple shall become a utopia of crime, hedonism, excess, and more as we seek to climb to new heights like never before. The City that Never Sleeps is kept awake on an endless supply of drugs, proft, and entertainment, all provided by the new providers and rulers of this metropolis. We have emerged from the valley of the shadow of death and have walked into a true gangster’s paradise for all to find profit and prosperity in."
    • Gustaf Hallström's path in Mercénaires du Congo Ouest heavily references the Metal Gear series, especially the Big Boss games. This includes the nation's name, "Outer Heaven", namedrops of Solid Snake and Metal Gear itself, and even a reference to the birthday Easter Egg in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
