Jigoku Kisetsukan: Sense of the Seasons is a game made by Emanuele "Emad" Franceschini released in 2014. It takes inspiration from Touhou Project and Cave Story.

Tenshi is an elemental goddess who feels a strange presence lurking around and goes to investigate. Mizuiro Natsudori is a young tamer searching for her lost father figure. Eiko Yukimi is an amnesiac catgirl causing mischief. Nibiiro is an alien investigating about Earth while trying not to get noticed by humans. Fumin Nakitama is an ill girl who, unknown to her, can travel across dimensions. What happens after the paths of these girls cross and they discover a terrible monster spreading death and decay?

This game series contains examples of:

  • All There in the Manual: The game contains a file explaining the background of the characters.
  • All Just a Dream: What Fumin believes her experience in the story to be. Even when being told by Tenshi and Dev that she isn't in a dream, she still holds this belief. At the end of Dev's route, she realizes that she was actually awake all along and helps Dev and other girls to rescue the possessed Tenshi.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Stage 3 takes place in outer space, despite the player characters not being in a spacesuit or vehicle of any kind. It's justified for most of the characters, since they have supernatural powers, but Fumin and Dev...
    • Though in Dev's case....Well, he's the author. So he might break the 4th wall.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Thanatos thought that by stealing Tenshi's young and immortal body, she could be freed from her Body Horror and she would be happier. As shown by Tenshi's route, she's clearly unhinged by this decision, her mental stability having gotten worse.
  • Broken Bird: The Embodiments of Fear.
  • Bullet Hell: As you'd expect from a game so obviously inspired by Touhou.
  • Companion Cube: Fumin's dragon plush, Elvis. It's actually a Restraining Bolt to balance her Power Incontinence.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Most of the characters are these.
    • Eiko used to be a human who had an unrequited love towards a boy and was eaten by a cat youkai after being heartbroken.
    • Nibiiro was an outcast to her fellow aliens and treated with disrespect by everyone around her.
    • Mizuiro was an abandoned child who was adopted by a kind druid. Years later, the druid departed, leaving her completely alone.
    • Fumin was an ill gil with Power Incontinence who was constantly atacked by evil forces which drained her energy constantly. And she never realized it.
    • Nyctos's host was a little girl who became a harvest sacrifice.
    • Zelus's host was a girl who was abandoned by her lover and was driven to insanity. She killed a couple, whom she mistook for her lover before commiting suicide.
    • Chronos's host was a seer who foresaw the destruction of her kingdom. She was driven to madness in an attempt to save her kingdom from its imprending doom, but since You Can't Fight Fate, the kingdom collapsed due to her actions.
    • Thanatos. Her body is constantly decomposing and regenerating in an endless loop and she's the Embodiment of the Fear of Death, which has warped her mind.
  • Downer Ending: Tenshi's route ends up with her defeating Thanatos, but she steals her body soon after with the help of the rest of the Embodiments of Fear. The last shot shows that Thanatos succesfully hijacked Tenshi's body.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The final route of the game features Dev befriending all the girls and working together to save the possessed Tenshi. After she's saved and Thanatos abandons her body, Mizuiro might finally find out what happened to the druid, Fumin finally understands that she was awake all along, Eiko is beginning to understand again about love and Nibiiro decides to stay in Earth with her new friends. Also, the hosts for the Embodiments of Fear were able to rest in peace....except that Thanatos might cause havoc again someday.
  • Evil Counterpart: The girls and the embodiments they fight during the game are actually not that different.
    • Tenshi is a beautiful goddess who controls nature (life) while Thanatos is a rotting body and the embodiment of death.
    • Eiko and Zelus's host were heartbroken by their love interests. While Eiko was transformed into a youkai and forgot about said love, In the latter's case, her jealousy eventually consumed her and drove her to madness.
    • Nibiiro and Atych want to make friends, but while Atych has given up on being accepted by society, Nibiiro still tries to.
    • Mizuiro and Chronos's host are still haunted by their past. Hoever, while Mizuiro might still have the chance to see the druid again, Chronos's host has already lost her kingdom and has nothing.
    • Fumin and Nyctos's host are innocent girls whose lives were ruined by forces they couldn't understand.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Mizuiro is an animal tamer and was raised among them.
  • Hates Being Touched: Nibiiro.
  • Older Than They Look: Nibiiro looks prepubescent, but she's actually 147 years old.
  • The One Guy: Dev is the only male in the cast.
  • Power Incontinence: Fumin cannot control her esoteric powers due to her ill body. She often has out of body experiences and her spirit wanders across dimensions. According to Word of God, she's totally unaware of it and believes it's All Just a Dream.
  • Shrinking Violet: What everyone believes Nibiiro to be. She was actually abused by her fellow aliens and runs away after meeting the protagonists because they believe they're going to pick on her too. After Dev's route, she grows out of it.
  • Spanner in the Works: The Dev's route is full of this, since he's the author of the stor and hijacked the game to be a part of it. His intervention does help the girls and saves Tenshi from Thanatos's control.
  • Was Once a Man:
    • Eiko used to be a human girl who was ambushed by a cat youkai who ate her emotions. While the youkai became a human, Eiko became a youkai and forgot about her life.
    • Also Embodiments of Fear take the appearance of girls who died tragically in the past.
