Green Mountain is a short Sonic the Hedgehog horror game shared on Jan 12, 2024 by a SFGHQ forum user named "grenmoun_s o n i c". The post only states to "follow the green mountain trail", and when you start up the game, things are already off right from the get-go. Can you scale the Green Mountain and figure out just what lies at the top?

Tropes:

  • Alternate Reality Game: The game was posted on the SFGHQ forums without much context, and it's left up to players to dig deeper and uncover just what is going on. Looking in the game files also unveils some more secrets, though it's left ambiguous as to just what is going on in the game.
  • Checkpoint Starvation: Messing up at any point in the climb will send you right back to the beginning.
  • Downer Ending: While the Sonic we play as kills the rotting doppelganger, he's stuck at the top of the mountain for eternity, doomed to rot and become the very thing he killed as everything fades around him.
  • Falling Damage: Compared to traditional Sonic games, the Sonic you control actually can die from falling from big heights.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Nobody can make out who "grenmoun_s o n i c" really is, as whoever the user is, they were only seen on the forum for exactly three days; they joined on the 10th of January 2024, uploaded this game two days later with their only message to date, and haven't come back since the 13th of January, so it's impossible to ask them about the whole ordeal. Even with the idea in the files that a user named "John-Kunoff" (who may or may not be the programmer of the near-same name for Sonic PC Port) created the game, we're still not given many clues to work with and are forced to gather clues on our own.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When down to its last two hit points, the rotting Sonic, instead of trying to attack its living counterpart, tries to flee the mountain, but the screen lock prevents it from doing so, leaving it at the mercy of the hedgehog.
