The ultimate off-road experience

Gravel is a 2018 Rally racing game made by and published by Milestone Inc. The game centeres around a television show named Off-Road Master where you have to go through the whole season in order to race against various other champions and try to become the champion of this year's season.

The game provides examples of:

  • Anti-Frustration Features: Made a mistake? Screwed up a turn or spun out? Not a problem. The rewind button is there to help fix your errors.
  • Elite Four: Gravel's Off Road Masters feature a defending champion for each of the specific race types:
    • Scott Parker is the Stadium Circuit Master, which focuses on trophy trucks inside off-road arenas.
    • Ryan Carter is the Wild Rush Master, which revolves on classic rally-style circuit racing.
    • James Watanabe is the Speed Cross Master, where races take place in Real Life rallycross tracks with lots of technical turns.
    • Justin Evans is the Cross Country Master, taking place in wide open point-to-point roads where high speed and jumps are emphasized.
  • Excuse Plot: You want to be the best in a season of a rally TV show? Go out and race.
  • Hard Mode Perks: Playing on a harder difficulty and disabling assists net you bonus Experience Points, allowing you to level up and unlock new items quickly.
  • Hummer Dinger: There's lots of SUVs and pickups in the game. And yes. There is also Hummer in the game. Surprisingly averted that it drives on off-road track. Well, duh! It's Gravel for Christ sake! And besides Hummer, you also get to drive the militarized Humvee too!
  • Marathon Boss: Before you take on the Final Boss Sean Walker, you'll have to take on a four-race Boss Bonanza with all the previous Off Road Masters you already have beaten in each race. Then comes Walker himself in a one-on-one race for the crown title.
  • Model Museum: You can hide the interface in vehicle selection, letting you zoom in and out on your car and freely rotate the camera around it... except to look at the bottom of the car, which would reveal a featureless plane.
  • Racing Game: Of Course, but centered around a racing game show not unlike Split/Second
  • Show Within a Show: Taking place in the so-called "Gravel Channel", the plot of the game revolves around the show Off-Road Masters.
  • Subsystem Damage: Turning on Mechanical Damage displays the damage for two subsystems: engine and steering. If either take too much impact, well you can't edge the competition with a broken engine or steering wheel.
  • World Tour: Gravel takes you around various locations from around the world, ranging through different terrain and environment. Like the mountainous Alaskan forests, to the tropical beaches of Blue Paradise in the Pacific Ocean, to stadiums of Los Angeles and Florida and through selected rallycross circuits that most were previously in Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO.
