(L-R) Nozomi, Grand Dad, and Loud Nigra.
To discover what made Grand Dad a meme icon
We're going back to the Stone Age.

What happens when you take the Nintendo Entertainment System bootleg 7 Grand Dadnote  and updating it in the style of Sonic Mania, all viewed under the meme-laden lens of SiIvaGunner? You get Grand Dad Mania.

As one would expect from the source, the first hint at the game's existence was through a video - "Trailer Theme (In-Game Mix) - Sonic Mania - that presented the game in a manner directly paralleling the latter's trailer. While the ending has fine print reading that Grand Dad Mania is "not actually coming out maybe", it was later revealed to actually be real (via a series of teaser pictures).

So far, what's known about the game is that it remains a platformer, and much like Sonic Mania, updates the original game's levels. It also adds two new playable characters - Nozomi and Loud Nigra, both prevalent SiIvaGunner memes.

While the game was unfortunately cancelled on February 22, 2017, a fan-made Beta version featuring one character and one level can be downloaded from here.

There's also a revival being made, with plans to actually release something akin to it. Download link is here. However, development has been on hold since 2019.

Tropes:

  • Arc Number: 7, carrying over from the channel proper.
    • One segment of the Studiopolis analogue has exactly 7 TVs in the window.
    • A sign immediately underneath has a prominent 7.
    • Carrying over from Dian Shi Ma Li, a 7 earns you the best payout.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The animation preceding the title screen intentionally emulates a goofy Off-Model face from Sonic Mania's title.
  • Gag Censor: Loud Nigra is constantly censored by a yellow star. For an idle animation, he takes it off to polish it... revealing that he has a white star on underneath.
  • Mythology Gag: All over the place in the Studiopolis Zone analogue:
    • Among the signs in the level include "QQQ"note , "Puzzle Room"note , and "LORE"note
    • One object in the level is "SiIva's Coconut Gun Brand:" a Coconut Cannon.
    • Another segment has a recreation of Dian Shi Ma Li (a slot machine simulator that featured what is believed to be the first incarnation of the Grand Dad sprite).
    • Three of the TVs in the level display the logos of Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and Undertale - all games with prominent high quality rips made of them.
    • The trailer has a host of them, too:
      • The logos subbing in for Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and Pagoda West Games are Mr. Rental, Vinesauce, and "High Quality Headquarters" (which has its logo slightly altered into the symbol on Grand Dad's hat.
      • Grand Dad's odd animation upon first showing up in the trailer refers to the "twerking" animation from a similar NES bootleg (a version of The Jungle Book that starred a bizarre, anthropomorphic Simba). Joel made it famous in the same stream where he first reacted to Grand Dad.
      • The Star tarot card Nozomi holds has her "smol" incarnation in the center star.
      • The animation for the title screen has a Freeze-Frame Bonus identical to a memetic, goofy still from Sonic Mania's.
  • Nostalgia Level: The first level of 7 Grand Dad/The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy is recreated here.
  • Pastiche: Of Sonic Mania.
  • Shout-Out: Unsurprising, given the source.
