Gensou Skydrift (often stylised as GENSOU Skydrift) is a 2019 Touhou Project fangame developed by illuCalab and published by Phoenixx Inc.
The gameplay is that of a tag-team Racing Game, similar to Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, with the twist that instead of switching between the front and back seats, characters switch between the roles of "rider" and "board", with the former determining the player's Limit Break, and the latter determing actual stats.
The game is available on Steam here.
Gensou Skydrift contains examples of the following:
- BFS: Flandre has one. See Flaming Sword below.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: Cirno and Seija
- Body Sled: The entire premise. Apparently it's being done to conserve energy. Somehow.
- Call a Hit Point a "Smeerp": No, those aren't items you're picking up, they're spell cards.
- Cool Airship: The Seirensen, the last of the seven courses that do not need to be unlocked.
- Excuse Plot: A rather confusing one involving magical power being drained, and later, Seija's attempts to escape into The Outside World. Lampshaded in the first ending:Sanae: Gensokyo should return to normal soon enough.
Remilia: Oh? Then we need to hurry, don't we?
Reimu: Hm? What for?
Remilia: What else? We need to make the most of these races while we still can. - Flaming Sword: Flandre's Last Word has her pull out one of these. It's bigger than she is. Tenshi also has one, but hers is considerably smaller and she only uses it to create an earthquake, rather than attacking her opponents directly.
- Flying Saucer: Nue turns into one for her Last Word.
- An Ice Person: Cirno, as per canon. Thanks to Seija having (somehow) boosted her powers to massive levels, she was able to create a gigantic racetrack out of ice above the Misty Lake. Her Last Word has her freeze everyone on the track except herself, seriously impairing their handling.
- Invincibility Power-Up: The Peerless Patriot's Elixir. This being a Racing Game, it also increases the user's speed. Reisen uses a more powerful versionnote for her Last Word, with Youmu and Suika having similar effects as part of theirs.
- Limit Break: Items are obtained through a downplayed version of this, with a straighter example in the form of Last Words.
- Nitro Boost: The Tengu Fan item. The Demon Lord Cradle and Stardust Reverie have similar effects, with the added bonus of launching the player into the air.
- The Outside World: Appears as an unlockable course, based on its appearance in Urban Legend in Limbo and Antinomy of Common Flowers. Seija is trying to escape there to cause trouble.
- Shout-Out: The Mari-Circuit's music opens with a few bars of Delfino Square.
- Slippy-Slidey Ice World: The Misty Lake, courtesy of Cirno's failed attempt at building a castle.
- Wave-Motion Gun: Marisa's Last Word, Master Spark, as per canon. It has the rather odd effect of clipping through the level geometry, allowing her to hit opponents from a completely different section of the track if she uses it in the right spot.
