Generic Man is a generic Platform Game based on the Mega Man franchise and made by doctor_lite. In it, the titular unremarkable protagonist, Generic Man must embark on a sorta-epic quest to save his world from the Master of Evil.
It is somewhat to a crossover game, where each level represents a game from a different franchise. Battle through the Mushroom Kingdom, the Moon and other exotic locations, defeat bosses, grow in power, jump, shoot and slash as you attempt to discover the identity of the MoE and stop its evil plans.

This game provides examples of these tropes:
- 100% Completion: Collecting all heart containers and beating all levels on Hard lets you fight your rival in their Super Mode.
- Adaptational Villainy: Barney the big, friendly dinosaur is the Master of Evil, the Big Bad who wants to Take Over the World.
- An Ice Person: Mega Man X, featured as a boss, can summon giant ice chips from the ceiling.
- Assist Character: Mario can summon Luigi to attack with a hammer.
- Big Bad: The enigmatic Master of Evil, aka Barney, wants to conquer the world. The protagonist Generic Man is offered a prize to stop him.
- Blow You Away: X can shoot tornadoes at you from both sides.
- Boss Arena Urgency: In his rematch, the Urban Champion has a collapsing ceiling in his room.
- Boss Rush: A linear one in the penultimate level, against almost every prior boss in the game (with the exceptions of Spongebob and Patrick, as well as Dora).
- Boss-Only Level: The Rival levels. The teleporter that takes you to them drops you directly to the fight. Also downplayed with the final level- there is some platforming, but only a brief bit before the Final Boss.
- Bullet Hell: Mecha Hitler, Mario, and MoE all have this type of attack.
- Cartoon Bomb: The boss of Pltfrm6 throws these.
- Cast from Hit Points: Your rival's Super Mode gradually drains his life bar and does the same to you when you use it.
- Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The Rival in the Optional Boss fight against him uses one to go into a super mode. The level description even outright calls it such, word for word.
- Death Throws: The enemies from Kung Fu, and Hammer Bros. throw projectiles at the player.
- Defeat Equals Explosion: Pantheons, Pain Elementals, Lost Souls, Dora, the Master of Evil, and even Generic Man himself set off explosions when killed.
- Denial of Diagonal Attack: At first, Generic Man can only shoot straight; he then gains the ability aim up and down, but never diagonally.
- The Dog Was the Mastermind: The Master of Evil, who wants to Take Over the World, turns out to be Barney, the famous children's show character, in what is almost certainly a Take That! towards him.
- Double Jump: One of the abilities available.
- Dual Boss: SpongeBob and Patrick team up as the boss of the Ice Cave.
- Emergency Energy Tank: After losing enough health on Hard, X will use one to heal himself completely. Fortunately for you, he only has one.
- Everything Fades: The dinosaur enemies and both the Pltfrm6 and Big Broken Bridge bosses fade away upon defeat.
- Evil Twin: Downplayed. The rival is not exactly evil so much as really wanting the reward money for killing the Master of Evil, and willing to fight those who stand in the way of him doing this. Naturally, he's a Mirror Boss.
- Excuse Plot: You are a generic video game protagonist who must defeat the Master of Evil, who wants to Take Over the World, so you can get the prize money for killing him. Why Generic Man must go through different franchises and fight various game protagonists and antagonists, and why MoE is Barney, is never explained. Played for Laughs as the game is not exactly serious.
- Flunky Boss: Rayquaza regularly summons Deoxys.
- The Generic Guy: The protagonist is outright called Generic Man. It's right there in the title.
- Half the Man He Used to Be: Just like in their source game, the sword cuts Pantheons in half.
- He Was Right There All Along: Before their boss fight starts, SpongeBob and Patrick are shown as ice statues, then come to life when the fight starts.
- Hold the Line: On Hard, the Master of Evil's final form consists of three last barrages that you must simply survive before you can land the final blow.
- Ki Manipulation: Generic Man's shots and Urban Champion's Hadoukens.
- Made of Explodium: When touched or attacked, ? Blocks explode with the "Bomb" Unsound Effect from Super Mario Bros. 2.
- Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Every level is taken from one video game franchise, and the protagonists themselves (and some antagonists) show up as bosses.
- Mook Maker: Pain Elementals spit out Lost Souls, while Lakitus and SpongeBob throw Spinies.
- Ninja: They appear as enemies and throw shurikens at you.
- Noob Cave: Noob Island, the first level of the game.
- Playing with Fire: Mario does this in his boss fight, but instead of directly shooting fireballs as usual, he summons them from the bottom and top of the screen.
- Post-Defeat Explosion Chain: Both Dora the Explorer and the Master of Evil set off a chain of explosions when defeated.
- Produce Pelting: The boss of Pltfrm6 throws apples.
- Shifting Sand Land: Sand Wilderness, the Mega Man X stage.
- Shock and Awe: Blue Mages shoot lightning in four directions.
- Slippy-Slidey Ice World: The Ice Cave.
- Space Zone: The Moon, which is populated by demons.
- Spikes of Doom: Usually seen on black balls like urchins, but they appear in other instances. And they're a One-Hit Kill.
- The Spiny: Lakitus throw them as usual.
- Take That!: The Master of Evil being Barney is most likely a potshot at the source material. In this game, the purple friendly dinosaur is a world-conquering villain and the Final Boss.
- Vehicular Assault: Dora, The Dragon and penultimate boss, flies a plane.
