More than three fishes, indeed.

Note: Due to how short the game is, and how many entries would risk being entirely spoiler-tagged, all spoilers are off. If you want to be surprised, please stop reading immediately.

Generic Fishing Game is a fishing game by Ferociter where you catch 4 different kinds of fish: bass, carp, catfish and rainbow trout. When fishing, press Spacebar when the top of the white rectangle is in the green zone, in order for you to drop the bait. When a fish comes, you have to press Spacebar when the black square is in the green rectangle. Missing it, or pressing Space outside of it, will make the fish get further away and eventually be free from your line. However, there's a lot more to this game than just this...

The game can be played on Armor Games.

You caught a list. Its size is 21 tropes:

  • Advancing Wall of Doom: The final enemy slowly chases after you, forcing you to pull yourself along by your fishing line to escape.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: The game ends with a literal bigger fish chasing off the smaller fish that was pursuing the fisherman.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: When you die, you respawn at the beginning of a segment. You'll need it, because these segments are hard.
  • Bookends: The protagonist goes back to fishing after having escaped to the boat, unlocking Endless Mode where it is easier to catch all four fish, and the horror is absent.
  • Disguised Horror Story: Catching one of the fish with human faces is only a warning about the long nightmare coming next.
  • Fiendish Fish: When the horror kicks in, you'll see some monstrous fish trying to eat you.
  • Fishing Minigame: The whole game lets you encounter different minigames about fishing.
  • Minimalism: It's a game with only four fishes and the Spacebar button as its only controls, right? No, you have to escape huge fish monsters, and arrow keys sometimes show up as controls.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Several fishes have this, including the huge ones chasing you.
  • Never Trust a Title: The first level of Generic Fishing Game is Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Then you get pulled down into a nightmarish hellscape of giant screaming fish, revealing that the word "generic" was more than a bit misleading.
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: You can only take one hit from any attack.
  • Oxygen Meter: The second segment has you maintaining your air supply by collecting bubbles while avoiding an army of humanoid fish.
  • Press X to Not Die: One segment has you press Spacebar repeatedly to swim to the surface and avoid the Mooks chasing you.
  • Russian Reversal: In Soviet Russia, fish catch you; after a while, a big fish catches you when the line has been dropped, starting the whole horror part of the game.
  • Smashing Survival: In the fourth section, you need to escape a large mass of human-fish-things by pressing Spacebar nonstop.
  • Swallowed Whole: An entire section of the game takes place inside a fish monster post-swallowing the protagonist.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: The game ends with the fisherman curled up into a ball after all the trauma he just went through.
  • Unexpected Gameplay Change: Once the horror kicks in, the gameplay goes from catching fish to dodging them. Later the game switches back to fishing segments, but this time with new challenges like moving targets and time limits.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: After the fisherman escapes, we get to watch him recover from his ordeal by crawling onto his boat and puking over the side.
  • Wham Shot: When the fisherman gets pulled into the water, the horror starts.
  • Womb Level: When a certain fish swallows you, you need to hook in strange growths to proceed, not unlike reeling in fish.
