Fortune's Tavern is an RPG-slash-tavern-simulator game on the PC. It puts players in the shoes of Mathias Gambridge, a man who's been unexpectedly summoned into an enchanted grove. Apparently the owner of a nearby tavern has died, and the terrible curse binding the tavern demands that someone else take his place. That unfortunate person is Mathias, who soon experiences the curse's effects firsthand: every night at 7 o'clock, no matter where Mathias is, he will be immediately transported back to the tavern. Escaping the curse is impossible- but given the Eldritch Abomination it keeps sealed, that might well be a good thing...

Gameplay-wise, Mathias must handle all aspects of the tavern, from renovating run-down rooms to foraging for ingredients in the nearby forest of monsters. Party members are hired from among the tavern's patrons, adding an element of strategy to the questing mechanic.

This game includes the following tropes:

  • Gilded Cage: Fortune's Tavern is actually more like a fancy estate, once it's been cleaned up a bit. But its owner/prisoner will never have a life outside of it.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: The fairies who yank Mathias out of his former life are fully aware that they're doing a terrible thing to him, but also that it was the only way to keep themselves alive.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: A dwarf character (naturally) in one of the DLC packs...if you supply him with the right ingredients.
