Your old pals Dixie and Diddy Kong have a new home on Game Boy and Super Game Boy!
"Fame-and-fortune seekers have flooded Donkey Kong Country in search of the fabled, Lost World. You command Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong through thirty-six Kong-sized levels of action and adventure. Use your animal friends — Squitter the spider, Squawks the parrot, Ellie the elephant and Enguarde the swordfish — to help you prove your adventuring skills and find the Lost World before someone else does!"
— North American box art for Donkey Kong Land III.

Donkey Kong Land III is a 1997 Platform Game developed by Rare for the Game Boy. A sequel to Donkey Kong Land 2 and the final installment of the Donkey Kong Land series, the game follows Dixie Kong and her little cousin, Kiddy Kong, as they adventure through the Northern Kremisphere in search of the legendary Lost World.

This game serves as a loose adaptation of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, complete with the same playable characters and similar level themes. The game was eventually re-released for the Game Boy Color exclusively in Japan in 2000.

Donkey Kong Land III provides examples of:

  • Artifact Title: Donkey Kong himself is completely absent from this title, making the already questionable title of "Donkey Kong Land" even more outdated.
  • Big Bad: "Baron K. Roolenstein", the creator of KAOS who seeks to find and conquer the Lost World before Dixie and Kiddy get to it.
  • The Cameo: Diddy Kong can be seen on the Extra Life Balloons.
  • Demoted to Extra:
    • Diddy Kong only makes a small cameo on the Extra Life Balloons.
    • KAOS, who served as The Heavy and a Recurring Boss in Donkey Kong Country 3, is reduced to a one-time boss battle here.
  • The Dragon: KAOS is K. Rool's most powerful minion, albeit not as plot-significant as in its original appearance.
  • Dr. Fakenstein: Just like in Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, K. Rool has taken on the persona of a Mad Scientist named "K. Roolenstein" who resembles Frankenstein's monster.
  • Excuse Plot: Dixie and Kiddy want to find the Lost World; K. Rool wants to conquer it. That's about it.
  • Final Boss: Baron K. Roolenstein is the ultimate enemy that closes out the game.
  • Lost World: The game focuses on Dixie and Kiddy's attempts to discover the fabled "Lost World" before K. Rool does.
  • Mad Scientist: K. Rool has taken on this role and built a giant robot to crush Dixie and Kiddy.
