Demon Chaos (戦神, or "War God" in Japan) is a crowd combat action game in the same vein as the Dynasty Warriors series.

Set in 16th century Japan, you play as Inugami, a powerful wolf warrior sent by the gods to aid Aoi Yasaka, a priestess, in purging the demons that are invading the country with the intent to further the turmoil and feuds between mankind.

This Video Game contains examples of:

  • BFS: Inugami is a big wolf man, after all, though his weapons are rather reasonably scaled up for his size. It's when he attacks that they gain Sword Beam to attack multiple enemies, invoking this visual effect.
  • Escort Mission: You are frequently relied upon to protect not just your priestess Aoi Yasaka, who provides you Spirit Flames if you run out, but also important story characters like Oda Nobunaga.
  • Magic Knight: Inugami is able to summon Pillars to heal and support allies in combat, or help destroy gates blocking the way for allied troops and for other purposes. He also utilizes Spirit Rage to seriously power up his attacks from "just" eviscerating groups of enemies to straight-up disappearing multi-hundreds in just a few swings.
  • Multi-Mook Melee: You kill up to 3000 enemies on the first mission alone. This should set your expectations for the carnage to follow. In fact the game is capable of running a maximum of 65,535 enemies onscreen at once! All thanks to the PlayStation 2 hardware.
  • Naginatas Are Feminine: Aoi Yasaka, a priestess, wields one.
  • Noble Wolf: We play as Inugami, a powerful wolf warrior capable of decimating literally thousands of enemies in a single battle. He's never shown speaking beyond the occasional animalistic growl.
  • Samurai: Practically omnipresent as red shirts you frequently lead around the battlefields.
  • Super Mode: Much like in Devil May Cry, when the Spirit Gauge has been filled some way, you can press R1 to activate Spirit Rage, which boosts your attack power to the point of being able to chain attacks infinitely, and cut through swathes of enemies in seconds. The Spirit Gauge is filled slowly by killing enemies with normal attacks, or picking up refills that sometimes drop in a battle.
