Dead End Job is a top-down twin-stick shooter, which was developed by Ant Workshop, published by Headup Games and released on September 19th, 2019 for iOS, then ported to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam on December 13th, 2019.

It is essentially a parody of Ghostbusters, with the players controlling Hector Plasmid, the newest, and the worst employee of a ghost-purging outfit, whose official job title is "sub-teamaker in training", and who only gets sent out in the field because everyone else on the team was unavailable, but the opportunity to earn more cash was too good for the boss to pass up. Now, it's time to guide him through the procedurally generated levels and hoover up all the ghosts who had unwisely thought they owned the place!

Tropes present in this game:

  • Bond One-Liner: Hector can potentially say a taunt when vacuuming up a ghost, such as "Your haunting days are over, chum!" or "Alright, add that one to the bill!"
  • Bottomless Magazines: Since you are using an energy gun to stun ghosts, it never needs reloading. However, it can overheat if it gets used for too long.
  • Circling Birdies: Stunned ghosts have stars circling above their head to indicate that now is the time to vacuum them up.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Ghosts' colors always correlate with their abilities, so that even if they might have a different form, you'll know that green ghosts are those that heal other ghosts, while purple ones will leave a damaging trail behind them.
  • Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like: The civilians you need to rescue are stuck to the floor somewhere in the room with ectoplasm, but are otherwise not in danger, and will be freed once you defeat all of the ghosts around. They may at times complain while you are fighting with something like "Could you possibly be any slower!"
  • Destructive Savior: Played for laughs at the end of the trailer, where Hector reports about successful end of the mission to his client, who looks at the utterly ruined office in dismay. He gets even more distraught once he sees the size of the bill. This is reflected in the actual game, you are straight-up supposed to destroy desks in order to get the cash inside, since your boss knows the clients won't have a way to prove this wasn't mere "collateral damage".
  • Die, Chair, Die!: You can destroy objects like desks in order to get the cash inside them. It's all for the good of the company!
  • Expository Theme Tune: The game begins with one such a tune that quickly goes over all the characters and the premise so that you wouldn't have any further questions about them again.
  • Flash of Pain: Hector blinks and becomes transparent for a few seconds after taking damage.
  • Mercy Invincibility: However, he is also invulnerable to further damage during this blinking period.
  • Mook Medic: Green-colored ghosts will heal the other ghosts, so they should be focused on first.
  • Speaking Simlish: All the dialogue is written out in speech bubbles, but is often accompanied by a muffle "speech noise".
  • Spread Shot: Some of the ghosts can spit ectoplasm in spreads of three, four or five. However, all of these projectiles can be harmlessly sucked up by your vacuum cleaner.
  • Super Spit: Some of the ghosts can do a short-ranged ectoplasm spit.
