Cosmic Avenger is a 1981 Horizontal Scrolling Shooter arcade game from Universal (the producers of Lady Bug and Mr. Do!), which was ported to the ColecoVision by Coleco as a launch title. It later became a homebrew title for the Intellivision.

The game has your ship traveling over terrain bombing various ground targets while avoiding UFOs, launched rockets, tank fire, mines, submarines, and torpedoes. You can adjust the speed of the scrolling terrain by moving your ship closer to the right, which causes it to scroll faster, and to the left, which causes it to revert to its normal speed.

This video game provides examples of:

  • Checkpoint: The arcade version has markers along the ground that indicate how far you have gotten in the game. When your ship crashes, you start your next ship somewhere near the next check point.
  • Deadly Walls: Avoid running into mountains or hills.
  • Direct Continuous Levels: Each complete level just connects directly to the next one without any pause between them.
  • Endless Game: The game continues until you run out of ships.
  • Enemy-Detecting Radar: Appearing on the top of the screen, it can detect where UFOs will appear from.
