Sonic.Exe: Ring of Despair (Formerly known as Confronting Yourself) is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by Jota_Mr and Rickylonpolo22. The mod is based off of Vs Sonic.exe and sees Sonic and his friends face off with Sonic.Exe.

Currently, the mod is in Alpha and features 2 songs, one where Sonic.Exe faces off with Tails, and the otherwhere he faces off with Sonic. Knuckles and Robotnik are planned to appear in future updates.

Song List:

  1. Disguises (Sonic.Exe vs. Tails)
  2. Confronting Yourself (Sonic.Exe vs. Sonic)

Tropes:

  • Adapted Out: Elements of Sonic and .exe’s designs from Differentopic, which Confronting Yourself is the Megalovania equivalent for, are missing. Those being Sonic and .exe not having brown bandannas wrapped around their necks and Sonic.EXE still having his right arm.
  • Evil Laugh: Sonic.Exe, using the infamous Kefka laugh that he also used in the original Sonic.Exe game.
  • Mythology Gag: "Disguises" ends with Tails screaming. The scream itself is the same scream heard when he gets killed by Sonic.Exe in the original game.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Sonic isn't so much "confronting" Sonic.Exe as he is running for his life from Sonic.Exe.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Losing "Confronting Yourself" shows Sonic.Exe appearing right in front of Sonic, poised to attack, and then the two fade away. Shortly afterwards, all the player gets to see are Sonic.Exe's red eyes staring straight at them. We never get to see what Sonic.Exe did to Sonic after catching him, but the implications are that he either possessed Sonic or killed him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sonic, who is usually smug and confident, is in sheer panic as he runs from Sonic.Exe, but this isn't completely unwarranted behavior from him, given what will happen to him should Sonic.Exe catch him...
  • Recycled Soundtrack: The song "Confronting Yourself" wasn't made for this mod in particular but was instead made as an analogue to Megalovania (going by the belief that the song is for the player rather than Sans) for the Undertale AU "Differentopic", swapping Frisk and Chara out for Sonic and Sonic.Exe respectively. Also the instrumental of song itself is a remaster of the original, both of which were composed by Saster.
  • Shout-Out: "Disguises" and "Confronting Yourself" both have a segment that references the classic Green Hill Zone theme from the original "Sonic the Hedgehog".
